When you think of visiting the library, you may not have many expectations outside of hoping they have the book you want. For many of us, it’s that simple. Anything above that is a bonus. That bonus has just come to life at the newest HMCPL North Huntsville branch.
Whatever ideas you had on what a library should look and feel like, throw them away. The North Huntsville Public Library is a brand new, state-of-the-art facility made to bring many years of wonder, creativity, and the love of reading to everyone that enters.
Everything! There’s an automated return center making book drop-off easy and even fun when you first enter. Next is the laptop rental station, where you can check out laptops for use while inside the library. Laptop rental is a nice amenity as it affords you to move around and find a spot that fits your needs while working. Along with laptops, they also have desktop computers set up for use in the same fashion as other HMPCL branches.
We spent a nice amount of time in the children’s section and loved that all books are easy to see and pick for young and older readers. It allows them to exercise more independence in choosing books. There are plenty of self-checkout kiosks, including in the children’s area, allowing more independent skill practice as little ones can scan and check out their books.
Other amenities that set this branch apart are the maker’s space, reading rooms, patio, and 3D printing. The library’s future depends on keeping up with the times and offering new and current amenities relevant to this generation of children and families using these services. The North Huntsville Branch is an excellent representation of that!
More than a library
One of the most appealing parts of this new library branch is the thought and effort put into what’s on the outside. Many people use the library for so much more than simply checking out and returning books. It’s a community hub. A place for kids to learn and grow, a place for families to meet new people and foster relationships, and a place where everyone is welcome. What’s outside here presents opportunities to reach and serve the whole community and visitors’ needs.
You can meet with friends and take a walk on the paved trail that runs on the side of the library or invite your local mom’s group for stories and play at the beautiful and bright playground. Perhaps you want to add in new exercises while spending time outdoors. The adult fitness area has you covered with an entire setup to make working out fun and fresh. I can’t forget the tennis courts where you can practice your backswing to the sounds of kids laughing and playing across the way.
All in all, this is a beautiful Library for a beautiful community that will create beautiful and lifelong memories for everyone.
