Need some ideas on how to spend spring break in Huntsville? We’ve got you covered! While travel and vacation plans still look different from previous years, there’s plenty to explore locally, providing your family with new memories and loads of fun.
1) Visit Huntsville Botanical Gardens for all things flowers, birds, and nature. The garden provides many exploration areas, and you could easily spend an entire day hanging out here. Little ones will love the children’s garden where they can play in a sunflower maze, make music with bamboo or beat the heat in the wading pool. They are also offering fun spring break camp options to help kids dig deeper into the natural world.
2) Get the wiggles out with a private climbing session at Johnson Legacy Center. Who can reach the top first? A little family, friendly competition is good for the soul!
3) Drop into Hay’s Nature Preserve for one or all of their free nature activities. Each day is a new activity and a new way to get in touch with the outside world. From creating bird feeders, to rock painting, there’s something for everyone. Make plans to stay and enjoy the natural playground or many trails within the preserve.
4) Remeber the Waterfalls song by TLC? Skip their advice and plan to chase waterfalls over spring break! There are so many to choose from and will inspire the water your love of adventure like never before. If you want to stay right in Huntsville, check out Alum Hollow Trail at Green Mountain Nature Preserve or Jones Valley Loop in Blevins Gap Nature Preserve.
5) Pack some snacks and go for a family-friendly hike. North Alabama is home to many beautiful things, including a fantastic network of trails. Long or short, flat or rocky, you can find a trail the whole family will enjoy. Can’t decide which one to try? Head to 3 caves. It’s always a favorite among kids and is the perfect backdrop for imagining beyond what one can see.
6) Take a step back in time and enjoy some excellent diner food at Golden Years Ice Cream Parlor or Buby’s Diner, home of the Doughnut Burger. Make a day out of visiting the past and go on the Little Richard inspire tour of Huntsville.
7) Did you know Huntsville offers all kinds of local scavenger hunts? Spring break is the perfect opportunity to experience them all! Test your luck with the Lucky Duck Scavenger hunt and follow that with the Purple Cup Secret Art Walk. If you want to go deeper, book a guided tour with Scene That Walking Tours. These tours offer an excellent way to learn more about Huntsville’s arts and culture scenes.
8) Learn about the rich and wonderful history that has made Huntsville the gem it is today. Take a tour of the lovely Alabama A&M University, Visit H.C Black Art & History Center, Discover Huntsville’s connection to culinary arts at Lowe Mill, or plan a visit to these Historic Places in North Alabama.
9) Who doesn’t love fair food? Go on a tour of Huntsville to find all your favorite fair bites. We may not be able to jump on our favorite rides or play carnival games right now, but these sweet treats will hold you over until that happens again!
10) Spend the day at Mid-City District for great food, entertainment, golfing at Top Golf, and gaming at Dave & Busters.
