Many of the product offerings are grown right on the farm at Oakwood University, bringing “farm to table” closer to home. Along with farm-fresh produce sourced from primarily local farms, the market offers health products, bulk goods, a smoothie bar, and a bistro serving delicious vegan and vegetarian options.
There are a few things that really set the market aside from others. For starters, they offer a huge selection of African and Caribbean items. Typically, one may find themselves traveling from store to store looking for such specialty items. Oakwood Farms Market has made securing these items so much easier and saved us all some gas in the process. I for sure am looking forward to picking up everything I need for our next Caribbean dinner night!
The next, and most important, thing that makes Oakwood Farm’s standout is the fact that it’s located in the Black Community. Black and Brown communities are oftentimes known as what’s called food deserts. These are areas in which people have difficulty finding affordable and quality fresh food. Physically planting right in the Black community helps alleviate/prevent those issues while connecting the entire Huntsville Community to the local farm.
In addition to the physical market, Oakwood Farms Market also hosts a weekly Farmers Market. The market is every Friday and comes with a variety of vendors, food trucks, and even live entertainment.

S&J Produce Farms in an open-air market located in Madison. They are located on a farm and provide locally grown produce, local honey, and fresh eggs. They even have a beautiful u-pick flower field full of sunflowers and zinnias!

Ayers Farmers Market provides fresh, Amish grown produce brought in from Ethridge, TN. You can also find local honey, (said to be good for preventing allergies), homegrown pumpkins during fall, and beautiful Christmas trees from North Carolina in December.

Madison County Farmers Market is a seasonal market open June through November. Having origins as far back as 1814, this is one of Madison County’s oldest and longest-standing Farmers Markets. The offerings can vary since vendors change from time to time but, you will find some of the best locally grown produce around! They are also known to have excellent homemade baked goods, seasonal flowers, and more.
