Let me start by saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope each and every one of you has the best Christmas yet and embrace the New Year for all of its glorious possibility.
Now, having said that, don’t forget to take some time for yourself this holiday season. I did just that last weekend when I organized a girl’s Sunday Brunch at Grille 29 to celebrate my friend Jamie’s birthday. With so much going on right now, squeezing in a special date night with your significant other or time out with the girls/guys provides that break from the holiday madness that you just might be needing right about now.
A Quick Detour Over to Dinner
With a prime corner location in the Village of Providence, Grille 29 is a real Huntsville favorite. Need proof? It won the People’s Choice award at this year’s Taste of Huntsville.
It is also my date place. Getting a quite booth in the front room and catching the occasional shooting star in the “night sky” over the bar makes for a wonderfully romantic evening out.
My recommendation for a romantic dinner? Start with either Crusted Ahi Tuna (melts in your mouth) or Firecracker Shrimp (if you want sparks!) followed by a really simple Filet Mignon, steamed asparagus and white corn cheese grits (creamy and sweet, they are my favorite). Order a Grille 29 Classic Martini, followed by a nice red wine with dinner, and finish off with the Crème Brulee Trio.
Sunday Brunch
Enough about romantic dinners. I was already a big fan of Grille 29. This time out however, it was brunch.
With the girls!

I had never been to Grille 29 for lunch or brunch. I was very excited to try the Sunday Brunch because, #1- there are $0.29 mimosas from 10:00 – 11:00 am and #2 – I was with a big enough group of girls that we could try almost the entire menu. In fact, there were only two menu items we didn’t order.
Side Notes
Did you know that the starfish at Grille 29 have their own Facebook page? I didn’t either until my brunch visit. Also saw lots of families out for brunch. While Grille 29’s dinner entrees are in the $20 range, the Sunday Brunch items range from $10 – $14. Add in the $0.29 mimosas and it’s very affordable. [spacer size=”0″]
Drink and be Merry
Oh the mimosas were good. With just enough of the dry champagne flavor coming through really good orange juice, it was a nice way to get things started. Note that after 11:00, the mimosas go up to $3 each.
It’s All About the Food

Let me start by saying, the Crab & Shrimp Frittata was hands down the best thing on the table. Which is saying a lot because everything was really good. The eggs were fluffy and the warm seafood in garlic butter sauce was described with some particularly choice words! Hey, brunch with the girls means telling it like it is.
I am a big fan of the white corn cheese grits with my dinner entree, so I had to get the grits for brunch as well, and they were even better paired with the Bacon, Egg & Cheddar Croissant or Veggie Frittata. The Grand Marnier French Toast was really soft and the anglaise came on the side so it was easy to control how much or how little of a citrus kick you got with your toast.
The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict featured crispy crab cakes that were strong on flavor and the Oscar Benedict had a wonderful, thick hollandaise sauce and I personally thought the asparagus was nice and flavorful. I would recommend either the grits or fresh fruit as a side over the potatoes (we did not get to sample the muffins). The potatoes didn’t quite have the rosemary flavor that was expected.
The Sunday Brunch at Grille 29 reaffirmed why it’s a great place for food and spending time with those you care about.
Hopefully I’ve given you a reason to head over there on a Sunday. Get there before 11:00 for mimosas and a frittata and say hello to the starfish for me.
