August Eat Local Challenge
Small businesses and locally owned restaurants are what make Huntsville-Huntsville. Challenge your foodie side with this monthly goal list that will increase your knowledge and palate of Huntsville’s local food scene.
The month of AUGUST challenge has two food trucks, a RocketCityDietitian specialty hotdog where proceeds will benefit The Manna House (local charity that provides and food to local families in need. Restore Rebuild Replenish), a secret pizza window, a cool treat spot and a place to dine around exotic animals!
All foods can fit into a healthy lifestyle and in true Rocket City Dietitian fashion, this list contains a mix of all types of foods from savory to sweet, health conscious to indulgent because #AllFoodsFit into a healthy lifestyle.

The “Craveable” dog, the Rocket City Dietitian special in August. Proceeds benefit The Manna House (a local food distribution center supporting local families through their Stomp Out Hunger initiative and their own hydroponic garden growing fresh vegetables for these local families in need).

Whats on the hotdog: An avocado sushi roll sliced and placed ontop of a New South Hotdog hotdog, topped slices of fresh avocado, black & white sesame seeds, fried crunchy onions and drizzled with spicy mayo. A little of everything because all food can fit into a healthy lifestyle. #BALANCE

Luscious Tandoori Lamb Chops. Unique dish in Huntsville. Marinated lamb chop in spicy yogurt, Kashmiri chili and ginger mix. Grilled and served with a fresh lemon to squeeze onto your dish before you eat. Pair with a fresh Naan bread and Mango Lassi dessert drink or Masala tea.
Terrisitas Tamales
Food Truck- Follow social media for location updates
Housemade tamales, a corn/masa mixture formed and filled with vegetables, cheese or meat. Street corn can come on the cob or cut off the cobb served in a up with mayo, tajin seasoning, parmesan cheese and a fresh lime and cilantro. Pair with their fresh aguas frescas fruit water.

GREEN ROLL sushi roll is a vegetarian option here I like to pair with yum yum sauce. That special spicy mayo is good on so many dishes! The menu covers a wide array of Japanese cuisine including; raw sashimi, edamame, seaweed salad, sushi rolls, teriyaki, katsu, rice and noodle dishes, tempura, hibachi lunch and dinners and dessert like mochi.
Make sure you enjoy your meal in the back room! The ceiling is flooded with colorful paper umbrellas hanging upside down and adds some character and fun to your meal!

A cool treat to finish off this hot summer. Chillabay is a dessert shop that has ice cream floats, ice cream sandwiches (made in house), milkshakes and sundaes. Vegan/Dairy Free options available.
Try the Orange Creamsicle float or the Cold Brew Coffee float using next door, Honest coffee roasters.
The inside has board games for the entire family or friends to come, get a cool treat and enjoy time together.

Secret pizza window is back at Lowe Mill with a different name and new owners! Veloce means = in a rapid manner. We were impressed with how quickly our order was ready! Pro Tip: Go through door 4 for the fastest way to reach this pizza window. Its on the bottom floor next to the great room with large boot mural and next to the hall with the Cat Café, the Pinball arcade and the local screen printing t-shirt shop.
Pizza by the slice or 10” to 14” build your own or specialty pizzas. Tomato, pesto or olive oil base.
Order: THE CHEESEBALL pizza. Red sauce and parmesan base, house cheese blend, American cheese, pimento cheese, feta cheese and topped with pecorino cheese and fresh basil.
Pair with a local favorite, Piper & Leaf iced tea located at the front of Lowe Mill.

Located inside Campus 805. You can get to this inside the building or from an outside entrance located next to Straight to Ale. Be sure to explore around this old school that has turned into a plethora of fun and unexpected shops.

The Mean Green Egg Roll needs to be on your plate when you come here. Pulled pork and collard greens drizzled with house-made white and mustard bbq sauce. Craveable item that you will order again. Enjoy the wild and fun décor while you are at the Huntsville location. A variety of fun decorations where you get seated under a tall giraffe or a decoupage canvas of Magic Mike, Helen Keller or Dolly Parton. Nick Saban has even been spotted here in the backroom.
