This Friday, the band Within Reason wants you to rock n’ roll, headbang, croon, and even hip hop. Sound confused? That’s because this band has a sound unlike any other you’ve heard before; one that defies genres. Here’s how bassit David Koonce described their sound:

“We would fall into the ‘Active Rock’ catagory from a radio perspective. You can really pick out our influences in our music. Each member of the band has different influences from Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Srpringsteen, Foo Fighters, Frank Sinatra, Motley Crue to even some hip hop. You can hear a little piece of those smashed together in some way, shape or form.”

Regular Guys

You may remember these fellas from their TV appearance on One Tree Hill or perhaps you caught them playing a venue around town or in Birmingham a couple years back. That’s right! These guys are locals, hailing from Birmingham, Alabama.

“We are just regular guys that love to write and perform music. We go through the same trials and tribulations that everyone else does. We just like to add music to the story and hope people can find some comfort by relating to these songs in their own way,” said bassit Koonce.

Koonce is being modest. These regular guys have quite a few accomplishments under their belt. He might not wanna brag about it, so I’ll do it for him. These guys just happen to have toured with:

And their latest album, After the Crawl, was produced by Grammy nominee Nick Chahwala. Yup that’s Katy Perry’s guy. That’s not my definition of regular…that’s my definition of awesome!

Show Time!

So what kind of show awaits you at Crossroads this Friday from Within Reason? I asked David to give me the inside scoop.

“I look at it more like a 90 minute break from whatever is going on in your life. Everybody has steam they need to blow off. Why not come cut loose with your new friends?”

I like this guy’s logic!

Indeed! Who among us couldn’t use a break from the trials and tribulations of our life- even if it’s only for an hour and a half? After all isn’t that what music is really about? Transporting us to another world. Getting lost in the words, the lyrics, the melody.

A good song can make your worst days brighter. When you’re feeling blue, all you need to do is to put on your boogie shoes and dance it out. And everyone who comes Friday should be prepared to dance- or at least participate.

“Our shows are for anybody that loves music. It’s is very entertaining and we like to get the crowd involved so that everyone feels like we are all apart of the experience,” David Koonce informs me.

So I guess all you need to decide now is do you love music?
