When you think about places to go skeet shooting, the Huntsville Museum of Art is not typically on the list of places you’d go. But on August 23rd, you might want to rearrange your list….
A Wild Night
Before you too excited, I should mention that the skeet shooting is actually laser skeet and target shooting off the Museum Patio (sorry guys and gals no reals guns in downtown Huntsville!) for an event called Wild@Art, a benefit for the Huntsville Museum of Art and Alabama Wildlife Foundation.

I find it’s best summed up by the Museum’s Communication Manager, Stephanie Kelley, “We’ve got eatin’, shootin’, singin’, drinkin’ and spendin’!”
So let me break it down for you one component at a time.
Eatin’ and Drinkin’
The night starts off with a Wild Game Cooking Demonstration (and samples of course!) by The Sporting Chef, Scott Leysath. You may recognize him as the host of HuntFishCook and Dead Meat.
For those with less adventurous palates, there will also be food by local favorite Narvelle Patton. Narvelle, not to outdone by Scott, is planning her own wild menu including items like chocolates with bacon and jalapeños. There will also be an open bar with beer and wine.
For those who want to go all out, there will also be a bourbon tasting offered by Pritchard Distilleries. This tasting is an additional $25/person, but it’ll be worth it.
Shootin’ and Singin’
The laser skeet shoot I mentioned earlier. After you’ve shot a couple laser around off at the patio, then you can dance to the sounds of Blue Mother Tupelo. The band will be playing all night!

Spendin’
Auction of original art and wooden duck decoys autographed by celebrities, Auburn and Alabama coaches, sports icon, artists and outdoorsy types.
But I saved the best for last.
Now this is the biggie: for the first time in the state of Alabama, there will be a sale and exhibition of works by wildlife impressionist Manfred Schatz!
For those not familiar with Manfred, fear not. I’ve got you covered. He’s the leading painters of animals and hunting scenes of our time and you’ve probably seen more than a few of his paintings. Click here to see a catalog of the works that will be up for auction at the Museum’s event.
