The changing of the leaves and the crisp air can only mean one thing in Huntsville, and no, it has nothing to do with that oblong pigskin.
It’s the season of superheroes and Jedi coming to big screens around town!

Huntsville is home to a ton of great theaters which will be hosting special events and screenings. We wanted to highlight some of our favorites with three of the geekiest movies we’re looking forward to.
November 3 – Thor: Ragnarok
If you’ve seen the trailer for the latest Thor movie, you know what you’re in for. Take the goofy Science Fiction charisma of Guardians of the Galaxy and throw it in with the 80’s-era action fun of something like Die Hard and you’ve got the recipe for Marvel’s latest with the Norse God Turned Surfer Bro.
And while Ragnarok will likely stand just fine on its own as a singular installment in Marvel’s long-running cinematic franchise, look for it to also start planting some of the seeds for next year’s showdown with the Big Bad of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Since Thor’s latest will serve as a bit of a throwback, we’re going to suggest a bit of a throwback location to see it in. Despite the giant dirt pile that will eventually become Mid City residing next to it, Touchstar Cinemas is doing business as usual in its spot behind what was once Madison Square Mall. While it may be one of Huntsville’s older theaters, it still boasts some of the most comfy seats in town!
November 17 – Justice League
Between Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, DC movies have been hit or miss so far. We’re hoping that with the involvement of superhero team-up alumni Joss Wheadon, Justice League can get the series back on track.
After the magnificent critical and commercial success of Wonder Woman, a lot is riding on her team-up with Batman, The Flash, and the rest of the squad. Between the inevitable return of Superman, and the appearance of Jason “Steal Your Girl” Momoa as Aquaman, chances look good.
If you want to make a night of it with your own squad, the Monaco at Bridge Street is one of your best bets. Having a dinner or drinks with your superfriends before or after the movie makes this one of the best spots for a night out with a big group.
December 15 – Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Of course, this is the one we’re all most looking forward to. The middle chapter of the sequel trilogy will hit just a week or so before Christmas, giving us all a chance to watch it and then watch it again during the Holiday break.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center will once again host Star Wars inside their IMAX, which is kind of a big deal. Only a handful of locations in the world will be chosen by Lucasfilm and Disney to screen The Last Jedi in the large-scale format, and we’re lucky to have one right here in town.
We’re also excited to exclusively announce here on Our Valley Events that Geek Out Huntsville and Huntsville STEAM Works will be co-hosting the premiere event on Thursday, December 14. Look for more information on what will be happening at this event soon!
