It can be almost oppressive in the mid-summer months, but luckily North Alabama has plenty of watering holes for you to cool off the way nature intended.
Caney Creek Falls
Driving Time: Around an 1.5 hours from Huntsville
It is a bit of a hike in to see the falls (about 3 miles) but once you get to the falls there is a lovely pool to swim in and easy access behind the waterfalls.

Joe Wheeler State Park Beach
Driving Time: 1 hour from Huntsville
Located in the picnic area, the sandy beach at Joe Wheeler State Park is the perfect place to fish, swim, and play outdoor games.
High Falls
Driving Time: About 1 hour and 15 minutes from Huntsville
This one is also a small hike down to the falls, but visitors can walk across the span of the falls and hike further down to the river at the bottom.

Martha’s Falls aka “The Hippie Hole”
Driving Time: 1.5 hours from Huntsville
Located in Little Falls, The Hippie Hole is a beautiful Instagram-worthy hole that is popular during the summer months and photo-worthy for you and your friends.

Flint River
Driving Time: Around 45 minutes from Huntsville
The Flint is a lovely place to float, but for swimming, you want to head to the spot behind Flint Primitive Baptist Church off of Everett Road.
