People volunteer for lots of different reasons.
For some, it’s an opportunity to give back to the community.

For others, it’s a way to fill up their day or fulfill a mandate.
Whatever the motivation, it can provide you with an opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and perspective, while helping other people (and animals) in need.
So, if you’re looking to do something impactful, read on.
Volunteering in Huntsville
A great place to start your search for opportunities is the Volunteer Center of Madison County which is an initiative of the United Way.
Because the search function on their site allows you to filter results by specific criteria, your results are tailored to you.
Maybe you’re good with accounting? Or really like animals? Or can speak another language?
The aim of the Volunteer Center is to “[ignite] change in Madison County by connecting your passions to pressing local needs.”
Other filters include but are not limited to:
- Age– From kids to grown-ups, you can search opportunities for all ages. This might come in especially useful for high schoolers trying to build-up their extracurricular activities for college applications.
- Agency – Maybe you already support an organization; check to see if they are in need of volunteers.
- Distance – How far away is it from your home or work and therefore how much time it will take to get there.
- Family Friendly – This is great! Sort the opportunities by things you can do with your whole family. What better way to spend an afternoon than helping others and teaching your children about the value of community service?
There are plenty more ways to find places to volunteer.
Local schools, libraries, and churches are great sources and may themselves need help. Whatever you choose to do, get out there!
Connect in a meaningful and impactful way. Make new friends, have fun, and learn something new!
