It’s here folks! As I, RickyHSV, have toured the city exploring all the popular options, new concepts, and uncovering some hidden gems. I’ve compiled this list to break down where YOU can find MY personal favorite tacos around the rocket city.
Phil Sandoval’s Fish Tacos
These Lightly breaded fish taco’s are served in a Fresh Flour Tortilla made AFTER you place your order. marinated Red onions and purple slaw add the tang needed to take this taco to the next level. Them comes the Dijon tarter sauce to seal the deal and create my favorite fish taco in the Rocket City.
Such-N-Such Burgers and Tacos
Smoked Brisket is the name of the Game. And Jason Such is a Pro at it.
His Bora Bora Brisket Taco is as delicious as it gets. Smoked Brisket, crispy onion rings, cheese, and J’s Red Sauce.
Worth the drive EVERY Time! To Decatur I don’t think my Kia can make it to Bora Bora!
Fire & Spice SmokeHouse
The Southern belle. No that’s not the nickname given to the owner. It’s the name given to their truly southern taco creation.
They start off with Fried Chicken, that’s right on a taco!, then load on the southern goodness. Pimento cheese, jalapeño jelly, green onions and chipotle sauce. I dare you to find another like it!
Super Mercado La Colonial
The Viral Birria Tacos Craze has made it to Huntsville. With many trying their hand at this super Instagramable Taco. My favorite version can be found at La Colonial. Crispy! Juicy! Cheesy! Flavorful!
Birria Tacos. Get you some.
Taqueria El Cazador
The Cazador empire is ever expanding across north Alabama. From the legendary taco bus, to their Madison drive through location. You will find my favorite take on Carnitas Tacos. Their street tacos have been a favorite of mine for years and I always get the same thing when I go. Carnitas Tacos.
You may not recognize the name. But I’m sure you know the Orange Taco Truck on Hughes and Old Madison pike. In the center of Madison their tacos are a staple to that community and beyond. My Favorite to get here would be their Tripa tacos. That’s right tripe tacos. Street tacos have always found a way to make off cuts delicious. This is one of my favorite examples of that.
When it comes to Great Food. Hidden gems. Hole in the wall restaurants. Are usually where great food can be found. Well this Gem happens to be on one of the biggest intersections in the area. On highway 72 and county line. Inside an Old Gas station. Here you my favorite taco is actually considered a quesadilla. But after ordering it. You’ll see why it made this list as a taco. This taco spot makes its own Fresh Corn Tortillas by hand in house!! And that one thing makes all the difference for me and many other foodies across north Alabama. Here I always get their quesadilla with carnitas “con todo” (all the way)
Trust me it’s a taco with cheese. It’s huge. It’s delicious!
Taqueria Los Jarochos
Al pastor tacos. That’s what this taco truck is famous for across the Rocket City. Originally the idea for cooking sliced meat on a vertical roasting spit came to mexico by way of Lebanese immigrants when they brought over shawarma. Fast toward a few decades and we now have pork al pastor tacos that we can enjoy right here in Huntsville. If it’s al later you seek. This is where you’ll find it.
Hops N Guac
With their extensive self serve beer wall, and Brand New Margarita Bar you now have Plenty of options to cool down with from this next taco. The Pollo Fuego!! Shredded Tinga chicken paired with a Chile de Arbol sauce and topped with corn salsa, chipotle ranch, and crispy bacon. Talk about an explosion of flavors. Proceed with caution.
Shaggys Burgers and Tacos
Okay this on is actually NOT a taco but bit has all of the same components as a taco. Breakfast tacos. Yes there are some options around town. But when it comes to breakfast options in the realm of delicious Mexican inspired food. I’ve always gone to Shaggys for their Austin Texas Migas. Layers of flour tortilla pieces, cheese, eggs, and sausage. Topped with pico de Gallo. Served with cheesy hash browns, biscuit and Gravy. It’s the perfect breakfast platter for anyone in the rocket city wanting more flavor from their breakfast with still catering to their comfort food side.
After working for 15 years in the Food Industry in Huntsville, Alabama, I decided to become a professional Foodie. I shined the spotlight on all of the local restaurants and businesses that I visited throughout my days on my social platforms.
