Greene Street Market at Nativity opens tomorrow night, and with it the introduction of Downtown Huntsville, Inc.’s Thursday Night Bike program.
This is a new concept for Huntsville, and I’m here to let you know how it works and what to expect.
Green Bikes on Greene Street
The bikes of Thursday Night Bikes will look familiar. They are the green Regions Bank beach cruiser style bikes that you’ve seen on billboards around town.
There are 10 available.
All bikes will be maintained by Trailhead, Inc. bike shop.
The bikes are identical, and are adult size. Borrowers must be 18 or up to take out a bike.
If you want to ride with your children, feel free to bring along their bikes (and helmets for 17 and under) to the Market.
Bikes are loaned out during Greene Street Market hours only. To borrow a bike, there will be a bit of paperwork to read and sign, and borrowers must have a valid Driver’s License or ID.
FREE
Thursday Night Bikes is a free bike borrow program.
There is no cost to take out a bike.
The only rules are 18 and up, complete the necessary paperwork, and you’re off. Just have it back when you’re done or no later than the end of Greene Street Market (8:00 pm).
Bike Friendly Huntsville
There was a whole lot of enthusiasm from our community when Downtown Huntsville, Inc. announced this program. Huntsville is a pretty bike-friendly town.
To help spread the word about all things bike-related in Huntsville, See and Be Seen will be there tomorrow night too.
Take a peek at their Biking 101 page for some helpful tips if you are a biking novice and plan to take a spin around downtown on a Thursday night.
But Wait, There’s More
During the course of the Greene Street Market season, Thursday Night Bikes will introduce you to new and exciting routes to try.
From a “Ghost Ride” trail to spinning around the Healthy Huntsville routes, there will be something to look forward to over the coming months.
Special guests will pop in from time to time to discuss things bike-related.
Your photos, tips, and high-fives will be appreciated as the program gets off to a great start tomorrow night.
