Green Bus Brewing, set to open in the first quarter of 2016, will be Huntsville’s first nano-brewery.
Jason Sledd, one of the owners, says they plan to keep the Green Bus taproom small and enjoyable, make beer and serve it on site, and there are no plans for distribution.
I took a tour of the location, which is currently in the midst of renovations and here’s what I learned.
Historic Building
206 Eustic is a 148 year old building.
It was most recently a law office, but this old building has had many lives.
It needed a lot of love and redesign to bring it up to brewery/taproom code, but the owners are making these revisions with great care. They are trying to live up to their “green” name by reusing as much of the old materials removed during renovation in their new establishment as possible. The goal is to ensure that their redesign gets the building ready for the next 150 years of its life.
Downtown Taproom
The taproom for Green Bus Brewing will be right in the heart of downtown Huntsville.
On Eustis Avenue, it is nestled half a black from both Greene Street Market and Commerce Kitchen.
Located in the Entertainment District, it will be the closest place to grab an adult beverage to enjoy while strolling the outdoor market, convenient for all the unique events on the square, and a great place to stop for a beer before or after a meal at one of Huntsville’s scrumptious downtown restaurants.
The taproom will have a historic feel with a warm and inviting atmosphere, with lots of seating and some pinball machines. The taproom will be open Thursday-Sunday from early afternoon through the evening, with plans to extend hours during big downtown events.
The Beer
The Green Bus taproom will have 8 taps.
Jason Sledd says
“We’ll be sure to have plenty of Hazelnut Brown Ale and Mosaic Honey Wheat on hand, which we premiered this year at Rocket City Brewfest”.
He adds that they’ll have several seasonal and special brews available but the majority of their taps will vary throughout the year.
“We want to be flexible and able to make beers the public wants to drink. We want people to know that Green Bus is the place you can come with your special requests.”
They plan to offer beers that span a wide range of styles and flavors, and hope to be able to find everyone a beer style they enjoy.
