Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I am not an outdoorsy person. I don’t really do the camping. Not so much into the bugs. When its hot outside I very much prefer to sit inside and drink lemonade. Though I do always enjoy lunch, dinner or cocktails on the patio, but what true Southern lady doesn’t?

Which is why it may come as quite a shock that I am tres excited about an upcoming Land Trust event. That is, not surprisingly, outdoors. In the spring. In the south. Where, as any of you who have passed a “spring” here will recall it is a bit warm.
Note I use the word spring somewhat loosely since I consider us Southerners cheated out of a true spring, skipping right over this delightful season and straight into the fire pit that is summer.
But back to the event-the outdoor event at hand. Specifically The Landtrust Smooth Jazz Concerts at Three Caves this Saturday, May 12th. What is it about this event that is enough to entice a delicate flower such as myself to brave the wilderness?
Music
I love music. That actually might be a bit of an understatement. In my house, there is no silence. Only music. At all times. So any time that I can hear (and see) live music, I jump at the chance.
Which is why I’m all about the Land Trust Concerts featuring Madoca & Company. This internationally acclaimed composer/jazz pianist has graced the stages of the Atlanta Jazz Festival, which holds a special place in my heart because I grew up attending the fest with my dad.
Location, Location, Location
The concert’s setting, the Land Trust’s Historic Three Caves is not your typical “nature.” This former limestone quarry at the base of Monte Sano Mountain is amazing. And I give huge props to whomever had the idea to have concerts here. Because its a great way to get all the good stuff out of nature without all the detractions.
Concert Tips
- Bring chairs. I mean you don’t want to have to sit on the ground, do ya?? I’ve got my hot pink one ready to go!
- Pack some yummy picnic treats. Or, pre-order a boxed meal from The Eaves when you order your tickets. I’m still contemplating my menu. Should you pack something extra yummy, feel free to stop by and say hi to me (see my picture below for help finding me). I’m always up for yummy treats. Especially cake. I love my cake.
- Sorry but you gotta leave Fluffy at home. Much as I’d love to see everyone’s adorable dogs, you gotta leave them at home for this concert.
- You can’t get lost! If you’re like me and the GPS takes you to all destinations, then this is a big plus. The Landtrust offers free parking and shuttles from Huntsville Hospital’s lots at Lowell & Adams Streets! They start at at 6:15 pm.
