I love seeing things behind the scenes. If you’ve ever been backstage before a performance you know exactly why. Months of hard work, stress, anxiety, anticipation and more hard work culminate in that moment when the curtain rises. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a performer in any form or fashion! And my daughter had her glorious moment as a baby mouse a few years ago (which she still talks about) so I am not even a ballet mom. However, I have spent the last few months watching Huntsville Ballet create what will be a spectacular performance.
Coming Together
It’s sort of like watching someone paint on canvas. At first there are no details, just colors and shapes…(rehearsals where the dancers are learning the choreography). Then some details are added and adjustments made. (movements are refined, spacing tightened up). Then come the final touches to the painting (rehearsals in costume) and … the final work is presented.
3 Shows in 1
What is going to be really wonderful, is that this performance is not just one work of art it’s many! Think of it like an art gallery of movement. I have seen Stage Door Canteen, and it’s so much fun to watch-I mean, you can tell the people on the stage are having a blast and you just can’t help but smile right along with them! I’ve seen glimpses of the new work by Phillip Otto and Keith Cross, and I can’t wait to see them in whole. I’ve not had a chance to see what the guest artists from Ballet San Antonio are doing, but I know it will be incredible. I HAVE seen the Swan Lake rehearsals, and all I can tell you is, we are very fortunate to have the talent we do here in Huntsville!
I’m also excited to see the 4th Annual Discover Dance Showcase; this is presented at the beginning of each performance. I wish I had space here to give you the whole story!
So I hope you will get tickets for either the matinee or Saturday evening performance of Swan Lake Act II, presented by Huntsville Ballet…it’s a show not to be missed!
