What do a pine car racetrack, a cigar box guitar and a gigantic robot have in common?
They are some of the things that will be on display at the second annual STEAM Fest, hosted at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, April 18, 2015.
Thousands of curious individuals turned out last year to experience the arts and sciences at work, including taking the controls of a full-scale reproduction in progress of the Millennium Falcon.
Adding Arts to STEM
STEM stands for the education curriculum of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, with Lowe Mill stepping in to provide the Arts to create STE(A)M.
The result is a match made in geeky heaven, demonstrating to students that science and math can be used in the application of creative arts.
What to Expect
This year both kids and adults can look forward to hopping in a full-sized wind tunnel based on the Wright Brothers model, and watching local students race homemade cars on the three story tall pine car racetrack.
The end goal of this collaboration between Lowe Mill, UAH, and Huntsville City Schools is to show local students that math and science can be used in everyday life.
So take a stroll through the vendors booths, get involved in an interactive exhibit or drop in on a workshop in an artist’s studio.
At STE(A)M Fest, art geeks and science geeks can live in perfect harmony.
