Hey Huntsville! I am super excited for this particular blog, because I get to tell you guys all about some of my favorite places to explore – the local plant shop scene! I will be completely transparent… I started collecting plants during the initial 2020 quarantine as a new hobby and distraction from the pandemic. It is quite apparent I am not the only one who took up the botanical life, as the plant market has boomed over the past year. I composed a list of places that I personally had WONDERFUL experiences at while shopping for new houseplants. Remember friends, prices and plant availability will vary at each location due to a variety of reasons! I totally think my green – thumbed colleagues will agree this list is a great start for anyone wanting to expand their plantie – knowledge and plant collection.
Vacation Plant Co.
The first plant I ever bought in an attempt to be a cool “plant lady,” was from Tatiana and Vacation Plant Co. I bought three Hoya Kerrii hearts (that I killed pretty quickly because I knew nothing about plants at the time. Sorry Tatiana! lol) and a Monstera Adansonii “Swiss Cheese” hanging basket (which is still thriving I am proud to say!). The rest is history! I adore this shop, because they offer an intimate in-store shopping experience, local delivery, shipping nationwide, AND they carry a wide variety of tropical and desert plants and accessories! Customers must make an appointment online to come browse the plant selection in person during a designated twenty – minutes. Open six days a week (closed Thursdays), Vacation Plant Co. offers a plethora of time slots for customers to choose from, in order to get the most out of their shopping experience at their convenience. In addition, Vacation Plant Co. sells totes, pots, plant stands, and (my personal favorite) Plantasia, the popular vinyl album plant enthusiasts play for their plants (seriously!) or just to tantalize their own ears perhaps. Vacation Plant Co. can often also be found at The Greene Street Market Downtown on Thursday evenings. Pay these cool people a visit, and shop this unique space!

Pure Joy Plants
Have you ever seen a traveling plant truck? Well now you have an opportunity to shop with Pure Joy Plants! This local plant shop is set on wheels, and is often seen at the Market at Mid City! Yarden, owner and plant enthusiast, is additionally often seen with Pure Joy Plants at local stores and businesses for special events. They even offer local home delivery! Pure Joy Plants works hard to maintain beautiful plants for the Madison and Limestone County Communities, and every plant I have purchased from them has been of the best condition. When I visited Pure Joy Plants recently, I purchased a Sansevieria Cylindrica (starfish snake plant) and a Calathea Zebrina. Both are doing great, and I can definitely admit that Pure Joy Plants is one of my happy places! Visit them online or in person to learn more!

Botanica Plant Shop
Come for the plants, stay for the vibes. Botanica first hit the Huntsville scene as a popup at a local coffee shop. Fast forward, and they are now approaching their one-year anniversary in September. Botanica provides customers a unique shopping experience with tropical houseplants, cacti, and succulents. Don’t forget to take a picture on the famous pink couch and pink flamingo wall! Open six days a week (Closed Mondays), Botanica is a progressive and inviting establishment welcoming all in to the plant community. They have three locations in Huntsville, Birmingham, and Chattanooga. Botanica Huntsville is now also officially offering potting classes! Visit their website to grab tickets for their first potting bars at Straight to Ale on August 17, and The Camp at Mid City on August 24.

Brooks and Collier
This location offers an abundance of goodies for the plant enthusiast and home décor extraordinaire! From furniture to grills, plants, and outdoor decorations, this place has it all! They even have something for the animal lover! Brooks and Collier employs two fluffy, lovable mascots that can usually be found lounging outside, or wandering around the store. The pups are simply adorable, and add a fun memory to your already pleasant shopping experience. Walk to the very back and through the doors to the nursery, where you can find a variety of houseplants from the tiniest succulents to absolutely enormous birds of paradise and fiddle leaf figs. They even have an outdoor nursery and garden center, complete with beautiful topiaries. When I visited here, I bought a beautiful spider plant and had to take all the pictures! Visit them to see how wonderful they are for yourselves!

Earth Touch Gardens
WOW! The first time I set foot in the houseplant greenhouse at Earth Touch, I was amazed! They have such a variety of plants, and the love they pour in to their work to upkeep them is obvious. They also have a nursery for outdoor plants and trees, as well as a store that sells supplies and a variety of succulents and air plants. I found my first String of Turtles at Earth
Touch, and I cannot wait to go back to hopefully get a String of Pearls! They had such an amazing variety of foliage; I cannot wait to go back and find more of my wish list plants. Earth Touch is a hidden gem for those who are new to the plant community, and maybe even new to the area. I highly suggest visiting them and perusing their selection to add to your collection at home.

The Greenery
Located just over the mountain and east of Huntsville, The Greenery is a beautiful location with10 acres of property, a two–story brick storefront that more resembles a home, and a fabulous outdoor selection of large pots and outdoor accessories. Inside the store, customers can find a collection of beautiful things to adorn your home and garden. A large nursery is adjacent to the brick-and-mortar store, with a large assortment of houseplants, trees, outdoor plants, and pots. If you are a Bonsai lover, this is definitely the place to look! One of my favorite plants came from The Greenery, and I was so proud of them I immediately had to let my friends know. Upon inspection of their indoor houseplant selection, I immediately gasped as I laid my eyes on the Pilea Peperomioides (Commonly known as the Money Plant, UFO Plant, or the Friendship Plant). I searched for this plant for so long that I had to buy two! They are currently thriving in my home, and I have even propagated several for friends! Hopefully when y’all visit The Greenery, you will find your favorite plants, too!

Every Plant in my collection has come from one of these stores I just listed for you guys. If you are a plantie veteran, or just arriving on to the plant scene, I definitely suggest hopping in the car with your friends, grabbing some coffee (I go for an iced dirty chai every time) from a local coffee shop, and make a day of visiting all the plant shops Huntsville has to offer. Whether you are in to tropical houseplants, cacti, or succulents, there is something for you out there in the Rocket City! If you know of any other house plant shops that did not make my list, please let us know! I’m always excited to visit new places for new plant babies!

Thanks for the great list! I had no idea about about a couple of those. Can’t wait to check them out!
I can’t believe you forgot Bennett’s nursery! They are the original ones!
I would love to plant some palm trees around my home. Do you have any idea if anyone in North Alabama sells them?
