Brush off your rainbow gear Huntsvillians, and get ready for the second annual roundup of Pride celebrations taking place throughout the month of June. First up: Join the Huntsville Young Professionals on Tuesday, June 11 at 5:30 pm at Lone Goose Saloon in support of Rocket City Pride with a kick-off party.
This benefit kick-off party is a fundraiser for the GLBT Advocacy & Youth Services, which is the group responsible for orchestrating Rocket City Pride. The HYP kick-off party will have a photographer – as well as token attire items – so you may adorn yourself for a commemorative picture.
Raising Awareness
Along with accepting donations for the GLBT Advocacy & Youth Services, the Huntsville Young Professionals aim to raise awareness of Pride activities taking place throughout the month of June. The group is asking revelers to use their commemorative photographs in a social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter (@ #PrideHSV) to show support of diversity and inclusiveness in the Rocket City.
DJ Sweet T will provide tunes the night of the HYP Pride Party. Come prepared for awesome raffle prizes including:
- Tickets to Kathy Griffin at the Von Braun Center
- Tickets to VIP Rocket City Pride Party on June 14th
- Tickets to Dining With Friends at Baron’s Bluff
- Tickets to CATS by Independent Musical Productions
- Tickets to Epic Comedy Hour on June 28th at Lowe Mill

The Performers
With Pride celebrations taking place throughout the month of June, this year brings two noteworthy performers to Huntsville. First up, is drag performer and actress Carmen Carrera who will perform the evenings of June 21 and 22 at Partners Bar & Grill. Carrera, who is of Puerto Rican and Peruvian ancestry, rose to fame as a cast member of Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
Also new this year is headlining entertainer SIRPAUL who will dazzle Pride-goers on June 23 with his beats, beginning at 8 pm at the Roundhouse. The New York city-based musician describes his sound as next generation, new wave electro-folk that combines acoustic and electric guitars with old school hip-hop and electro-beats. Not only has the artist remixed for pop-star Britney Spears, he has also licensed music to the well-known design house Giorgio Armani.

All About Pride
All events culminate on June 23 at the downtown Roundhouse with family-friendly festivities and a parade. The event begins at 1 pm, is free, and brought to Huntsville by the nonprofit GLBT Advocacy & Youth Services. The group is dedicated to engaging in effective advocacy for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people.
