‘Tis the season for cons.
From Nashville to New York, fans from all over the United States make the pilgrimage each year to their favorite conventions for panels, photo-ops and costume contests.
It’s a great way to connect with fellow Whovians or Force Freaks, and discover the latest in geek pop culture.
By the Fans, For the Fans
Huntsville is no stranger to the Con scene. The Doctor Who community shows they are alive and well each year with the Con Kasterborous Convention, and the bi-annual Hamacon events love to celebrate all things anime.
But while Huntsville is home to some pretty awesome niche conventions, it seems to lack one all-inclusive event for fans of all disciplines (think Comic-Con in San Diego, or Walker Stalker Con in New York and Boston).
Thankfully, your friendly neighborhood library has come to the rescue.
The Huntsville Madison County Public Library is unveiling the first-ever Rocket City NerdCon, a convention by the fans, for the fans, held at the spacious downtown branch. This two-day event is for geeks of all genres to come together and celebrate their fandoms.
The Perfect Nerdy Weekend

Starting Friday, October 24, 2014, Rocket City NerdCon’s itinerary kicks off with panels and live entertainment.
Sit in on a Cosplay 101 panel or lay the smackdown on some noobs in Star Trek trivia. Top off the night with live music or catch a performance of Disasterpiece Theatre.
And forget about sleeping in this weekend, because the Library keeps things rolling right into Saturday. Pull out those costumes because a Cosplay Contest is one of the main events of the day, along with author panels and a meet-and-greet with your favorite Star Wars characters.
After the event winds down and the Storm Troopers disperse, keep the party going by heading over to Yellowhammer Brewery for Nerd Night Out. Sip the limited edition NerdCon brew Imperial Guard Ale while local chiptune musician Roboctopus brings back nostalgia with his vintage instruments, AKA original Nintendo Game Boys. What a perfect end to the perfectly nerdy weekend.
Celebrate Your Fandom!
A few of the fandoms that will be represented at Rocket City NerdCon are Veronica Mars, Pacific Rim, Doctor Who and musical theatre.
This is a family-friendly event, and open to teens and children, as well as adults. Different panels will be offered for different age groups, so check the schedule for the location, age group and time. Over twenty different vendors will have booths showcasing photography, memorabilia, and more.
To purchase a piece of convention history, Komai’s Oh My will be selling pint glasses with the Rocket City NerdCon logo on them at their booth. For every pint glass sold, $2.00 will go towards funding future NerdCons.
