With all of the activity going on Downtown this weekend, be sure and take time for some culture!
Enjoy these 2 art events that are united yet very different. Behold, it’s the Red Clay – 2 ways!
#1 Red Clay Survey 2014 – Huntsville Museum of Art
The Red Clay Survey is a regional art competition sponsored by the Huntsville Museum of Art.This is a juried competition with cash prizes. It began in 1988 and takes place every two years.
The exhibition opens with a Preview Party Saturday, August 16 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
What: Red Clay Survey
Where: Huntsville Museum of Art
When: August 17 – October 26, 2014
Why: The Survey “takes the pulse” of current art through a selection of works determined by a juror with strong national credentials.
#2 Red Clay Rejects – Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment
For the first time ever, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment has decided to embrace the art of rejection!
Lowe Mill is having their own Red Clay show featuring works by artists who didn’t make it into the competition. Artists need only to show work with the accompanying official rejection letter for this unique companion show.
What: Red Clay Rejects
Where: Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment
When: Saturday, August 16, 2014, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Why: Your artwork might not be good enough for the Red Clay Survey but it IS good enough for the Red Clay REJECTS Show!
Enjoy your weekend!

Amy Jones has been a marketing professional in Huntsville for 20 years, with experience in all aspects of marketing, pr, media relations, event management, digital content, and design. Amy is the proud and busy momma of two boys, who keep things loud and fun. For fun she skateboards, rides her scooter, and kayaks (though sadly not at the same time!).
Totally do not get the point of the Red Clay Rejects event. Superbly poor form.
Thank you for comment KBG. I think it’s meant to give an alternative to these artists so that their work can be seen, and Lowe Mill is also open about the tongue-in-cheek aspect of the show. Either way, it’s a great weekend for new art!
