Panoply 2014 is only 2 weeks away.
It’s something we all look forward to every year and it will be here April 25 – 27, 2014!
This year the 32-year-old art festival has an exiting new logo, expanded Art Marketplace, added STEAM element, and features art, activities and entertainment that you won’t want to miss.
Tickets are now available for advance purchase online for $7.50. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Tickets will be $10 at the gate.
To get you ready for Panoply 2014, we are breaking the information down into a simple ABC check list.
ART

Some of the favorite pieces of art in my personal collection came from Panoply. I love to hunt for a new special piece each year. I hope you do too.
This year, the Art Marketplace has expanded to include 80 artists from 11 states. I spoke with Allison Dillon-Jauken, Executive Director of The Arts Council, and she said,
“Huntsville is emerging as a great art market and there is growing interest from across the country.”

Some of the artists you’ll see this year are:
Dillon-Jauken also told me to be on the lookout for Arts & Action demonstrating artists. She said these are like “little art surprise that you will find throughout the park.”
We are including the Interactives for All Ages in the “Art” category too. For Panoply 2014, the interactives will follow STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics).
Interactives include:
- Centrifugal Fun
- Creative Catapults
- Picture This (using green screen technology)
QR codes at each activity will allow you to pull up the lesson behind it.
BANDS
Music is a big part of Panoply and with 5 stages this year, there is something for everyone.
In fact, Panoply 2014 includes over 70 performances. There is also a return to festival seating, so plan to bring your blankets and lawn chairs.
Dillon-Jaunken said she’s always asked how The Arts Council programs Panoply.
“We showcase the very best local talent, both from our membership and regionally. We also want to introduce the community to great new talent and artistry.”
The weekend’s performers include:
- Matthew Mayfield
- The Jake Leg Stompers
- The Delta Saints
- The Deslondes (who are touring in May with the Alabama Shakes)
CRAFT BEER
Last year saw the introduction of craft beer and wine to Panoply. It was a huge success! This year, Panoply is bringing it back, moving it to a more centralized location adjacent to the Jubilee Stage, and expanding the offerings with 14 different craft beers.

Local breweries with beer on hand include:
Beers from New Belgium (CO), Terrapin (GA), Sweetwater (GA) and Angry Orchard Cider (OH) will also be in the mix.
Wine will be available. And don’t forget the good eats at Panoply.
Everyone’s favorite festival food will be there and you’ll find everything you need right in the park.
Recap
Now you are ready to explore (and find!) some Art, hear some great Bands, and do it all with a Craft Beer in hand. There is so much to enjoy during Panoply weekend, we hope you are makeing plans right now.
