It isn’t everyday that I have the opportunity to indulge in my German heritage on behalf of Our Valley Events, so I jumped at the chance to celebrate Deutschland at one of Huntsville’s most popular summer biergartens.
Hosted by the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, the German Biergarten is open every Thursday evening, and goes from April to October, making a warm weather favorite among locals.
The Davidson Center was already packed when I arrived, and I could see that this event was popular among families, as well as groups of friends and dog afficionados (Fido is allowed on a leash here). Kids played among the interactive exhibits, while the adults were busy at the bars set up along the event space.
The special selection of German wine and beer was a hit among the 21+ crowd, and there was consistently a line to the buffet-style German cuisine table.
Taking my place among the hungry attendees, I picked up a Crispy Oven Roasted Chicken, along with Fried Potatoes and a Cucumber Salad (a must-have with German cuisine).
I bypassed the heavenly looking dessert table for an up-close seat to the Polka dancers.
Garbed in traditional German attire, they were accompanied by a hilarious musical duo who, at one point, led us in a rousing version of “The Chicken Dance”.
By the end of the night, it was easy to tell why this was a smash hit among locals.
The delicious food and drink, combined with entertainment and a laid back atmosphere, becomes an event that keeps people coming back week after week.
