One of my favorite Huntsville summer traditions is back: Movies in the Park! After missing out on this summer fun for a year, the Historic Huntsville Foundation is bringing back Movies in the Park in downtown Huntsville.
Summer Movie Options
You may be thinking that you have lots of options to see a movie: rent one through Redbox, watch one on TV, go to your favorite local theater, or pick out a favorite DVD and chill at home. But none of these even come close to the experience of Movies in the Park in downtown Huntsville.

The movies in the park will be projected on a giant screen on the east side of the Huntsville Museum of Art. Old school Huntsvillians may remember when the Movies in the Park used to be projected directly onto the Museum.
But this was before the awesome remodel. Now we’ll settle for having a really cool looking art museum and a screen brought in for our movies in the park
Fun in the Park
How much does this fun night of movie going cost you?? You’d expect it to cost a pretty penny. I mean movie rights don’t come cheap. Especially when you’re showing it to a large group of folks. But thanks to the Historic Huntsville Foundation (and Movies in the park Sponsors Old Town Historic District Association) this Friday night fun is FREE!!
To make your night even more fun, I’d recommend bringing your whole crew (be it your kiddos, your gal pals, best bros, your pup, or all of the above), lawn chairs, some blankets, a picnic dinner, or pick up some tasty food from one of downtown’s fine eateries and make a night of it!
And if you are bringing the kiddos might I suggest coming a bit early and feeding the ducks at Big Spring Park? [spacer size=”0″]
Summer 2013 Movie Line-Up
But now on to the truly important stuff: the films. I’ve gotta give props to the Historic Huntsville Foundation for the way they chose this year’s line up of films. They didn’t just pick ones they wanted to see. They actually let US (ie the folks in Huntsville) vote! LOVE it!
2013 Summer Film Line up:
- July 26th: E.T.
- August 9th: To Kill a Mockingbird
- August 23rd: Back to the Future
Now let me just say, even if these movies aren’t in your personal top ten, you should still come to Movies in the Park in downtown Huntsville. Because it isn’t just about the films. It’s about the experience. Being in downtown in the summer with a bunch of other people (hopefully you’ll know a couple of them) having a good time.
