How much vintage shopping can one city handle?
As it turns out, a lot more than I expected.
Shopping Local
When I wrote an article for Our Valley Events a month back, my aim was to find the coolest vintage and thrift stores around Huntsville.
And I found them everywhere. Peeking out of independent bookstores, historic buildings and mobile fashion trucks were the best pre-loved finds a shopper could ask for.
And since the people of Huntsville are crazy about a one-of-a-kind shopping experience (and who isn’t), I’ve come up with four more reasons to skip the strip mall in favor of local businesses.
University Pickers
There isn’t anything run of the mill about this local antique mall. Row upon row of vendor booths greet shoppers as they walk in the door, each set up like a Pinterest board come to life.
Whether it is antique, homemade, or upcycled, each item sold at University Pickers is 100% unique.
Location: 3024C University Drive
Another Castle Classic Gaming
For people looking to score something more nerdy than an antique dresser, there is Another Castle in Madison Square Mall. Nestled next to the neon lights of the mall arcade lies an impressive collection of vintage and modern games, as well as some retro consoles.
Nostalgic gamers can also participate in tournaments and contests.
Location: 5901 University Drive, next to the Food Court
Flucy Lucy Antique Market
Located just across the street from the future site of Straight to Ale Brewery, this cozy antique store packs personality into every square foot. Vendors sell everything from vintage clothes to handmade jewelry, and the staff love to tell stories about their latest finds.
Looking to spruce up your latest find? Ask for Gilding Paste.
Location: 2717 Clinton Avenue
Cecil’s
Each seller brings something different to the table at this local vintage and handcrafted store.
Snag deals on weekend sales and support the community at their next event, Pickin’ Palooza #2 on October 18.
Location: 708 Andrew Jackson Way
