Meet Joe Martin. Huntsville native. Fitness guru. And all around awesome guy. And first up in our new Meet the OVE Blogger series!
Background
Where were you born?
Huntsville, AL
How long have you lived in Huntsville?
Almost my whole life, I’m one those rare native Huntsvillians who is still around. I’ve lived in Germany, Ireland, Virginia, and Auburn, AL but Huntsville is home.
Day Job?
Owner and Operator of Huntsville Adventure Bootcamp
Organizations you’re involved in
I’m in BNI (Business Networking International) and my church Latham United Methodist Church. Very proud to be a part of two awesome groups that care about people and make a difference.

Local Love
Favorite local event
I love going to the Concerts on the Dock at Lowe Mill. Lowe Mill is such a cool place anyway and then you add in great music, family friendly atmosphere, AND it’s free? Hard to beat in my book.
Favorite event you’ve written about for OVE
The Liz Hurley Ribbon Run. That race means a great deal to a lot of people, so any small thing I can do to help promote it is awesome. It’s a really fun race and it is always so inspiring to see all the breast cancer survivors and those dedicating the race to the ones who have passed away.
Favorite local attraction
I’m a huge fan of the local libraries. Dude they got free books in there! Did you know that? The MWR library and staff on the Arsenal has always been a huge help to me (thank you for not charging late fees), the Bailey Cove Branch is a great place to bring your kids, and the Madison library is such a cool facility. Especially the outside area, you need to check it out. Free books at all of them, it’s weird.
Favorite local restaurant
Anaheim Chili. I got crazy one time and got something that was not chili there. And it was awesome too! Always quality and quick service, the food is great, and it is inexpensive.
Imagine

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?
I’m glad I got a chance to answer this because it speaks to my political side. There are no buff red headed leading men in Hollywood! Or at least they are hiding them if they are. I demand ginger equality before I answer this question.
If you could be any famous person (dead or alive) for a week, who would it be?
I feel like I’m in a pageant right now. Why is Brent Musburger looking at me like that? I would choose George Washington Carver, so I could just thank myself over and over for peanut butter.
What would the title of your autobiography be?
Burpees, Bacon, and Bieber. The Joe Martin Story.
If you had a million dollars to spend on anything, what would you do?
10% to the church first baby, it’s how I roll. Then to off set my library answer earlier, I would buy every piece of weight training/fitness/Strongman training type equipment ever made. Then still have enough left over to keep myself in jorts and Crocs as well as take care of my family for many years to come.
If you could have a superpower what would it be? Why?
Mind reading. How awesome would that be? Although I might be horrified what my clients are thinking when I have them do burpees.
Lifestyle
Do you make your bed?
No way man! It has never made sense to me to make a bed I’m just going to sleep in again that night. My wife on the other hand is such a stickler she will sometimes make the bed with me still in it.
Last book you read?
Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell. Great book written by a Navy SEAL who was the only member of his SEAL team to survive. Crazy.
What would I find in your refrigerator?
You caught me at the right time, just went to Fresh Market. Got some salad, chicken breasts, sushi, apples, eggs, carrots, some cheese, natural peanut butter, about 8 kinds of mustard, 4 Tupperware containers all with mystery occupants, and a few IPAs for my cataracts in there right now.
Favorite quote
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t-you’re right.” Henry Ford
Either Or
Dressing up or sweatpants?
I’m a fitness guy, you know I’m rocking the sweats! I dress up for weddings and funerals though.
Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate, always chocolate
Pencil or pen?
Pen! Pencils are for people who make mistakes.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs. My wife and I are in negotiations about the next dog we will get right now. She wants a dog that will fit in her purse, I want a dog big enough to ride. Talks are at a stalemate.
