Land Trust of North Alabama Finalizes Protection of 65 Acres on Green Mountain
A 65-acre tract on Green Mountain is now permanently protected, marking a major step forward for conservation efforts in South Huntsville.
The Land Trust of North Alabama officially closed on the property Friday after raising $300,000 over the past year with the help of donors, partners, and community support. The land sits off Green Mountain Road near Camelot Drive and creates a key connection between Blevins Gap Nature Preserve and other protected areas along the mountain.
This newly conserved space strengthens an important wildlife corridor, helps protect local water resources, and preserves the natural views along one of Huntsville’s most scenic roadways. The property is made up of upland hardwood forest, supporting a wide range of native plants and animals while also acting as a buffer against future development.
The purchase is part of the Land Trust’s long-term River to Gap initiative, which aims to create a continuous conservation corridor from the Tennessee River to Blevins Gap. By linking protected lands, the project supports outdoor recreation, protects habitats, and preserves the natural beauty of Green Mountain for years to come.
This milestone was made possible by strong community support, highlighting the continued impact of local investment in conservation across North Alabama.
This achievement belongs to the entire Land Trust family. The generosity of donors and the support of community members made it possible to raise the full $300,000 needed to secure this property. Thank you for believing in the power of conservation and for making this milestone possible.
