Tired of all the traditional holiday offerings around town? Looking for something a bit more spirited? Then have I got a show for you! Performing for one night only at Merrimack Hall are The Four Bitchin’ Babes. And their aptly titled Jingle Babes! …Decking the Halls with Songs and Folly show is a must see for anyone looking to celebrate the holiday season.
The Show
With a title like Jingle Babes! …Decking the Halls with Songs and Folly™, how could you go wrong?! (Answer: you can’t) I’ll let the Babes describe their holiday performance:
“It’s a crazy-making time of year and yet we love it! Join the Four Bitchin’ Babes as they deck the concert hall with songs and folly. Sharing musical traditions, shtick and stories of friends and family, malls and mayhem, and ultimately the joy that lies within it all. Early reviews are in, and atop the Nicest of Nice lists.” From the Four Bitchin’ Babes website.
Meet the Babes
So who are these babes I keep referring to? They are four gal pals, each a singing, dancing, instrument playing sensation! Together since the 1990’s, which after I did the math was WAY longer ago than I thought! It just doesn’t seem like 1990 was more than TWENTY YEARS AGO! But I digress, back to these four fabulous ladies.
Sally Fingerett- Playing, piano, guitar, and bass, Sally is one of the founding “Mothers” of The Four Bitchin’ Babes releasing 5 solo CDs 9 Bitchin’ Babes CDs, and has participated in over 20 compilation recording projects! She has performed radio/TV Jingles for Butterfinger, Hallmark, and Sears, performed with the National Touring Company of the Vagina Monologues.
Debi Smith– Playing guitar, piano, and Irish bodhran (drum), Debi has received many Washington Area Music Awards and nominations (Wammies). You may have heard her on NPR’s Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Mountain Stage, and Radio Smithsonian.
Deirdre Flint- Playing guitar, bass, and piano, Deirdre hangs out at the intersection where folk music and stand-up comedy collide. She has performed at The Kennedy Center, The Philadelphia Folk Festival, and has won such premier songwriting contests as The Kerrville Folk Festival and Falcon Ridge.
Marcy Marxer- This formidable (and Blond!) multi-instrumentalist, studio musician, performer, and songwriter is a two-time GRAMMY® winner having worked with acts ranging from Pete Seeger and Tom Paxton to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Eva Cassidy.
What to Expect
Now that you’ve met the babes, you might be wondering what exactly to expect from a Babes show. Luckily for you, I have the answers! Here’s what the ladies themselves had to say about their shows:
“These four accomplished and seasoned musician-actress comediennes come together taking turns in the spotlight filling it with whimsical songs and shtick, presenting the hippest and most luxurious girl group harmonies “evah!”
“Playing their own guitars, bass, piano, Irish Bodhran, mandolin, and ukulele, this hilarious renegade sorority of gal pals use their elegant wit, sophisticated (never blue) stand-up humor, and enough bling to hypnotize the first five rows of any theatre, creating an evening of wildly fun and raucous delight!” -Curtesy of the SRO Artist website.
