Oh What a Night
So what is Jersey Boys all about?
The tagline says that it’s the story of how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. Those “kids” are known world-wide as Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. This is the origin story of the group and features their hit songs, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”
But make no mistake, this musical is more like a play with music, and one of the highlights of the show is the history behind this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group.
The Four Seasons are: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. I had the pleasure of recently speaking to Quinn VanAntwerp, who portrays Bob Gaudio, about the show. I asked him what was awesome about getting to be Bob Gaudio on stage every night, a role he’s been playing for 5 years. VanAntwerp replied,
“I have the incredible opportunity to play a living rock legend.”
Indeed. And then we talked songs. I asked VanAntwerp what song got the biggest audience reaction.
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You is one of the most famous and has the biggest payoff,” he said. “When the [Four Seasons] finally make it big in the first act, with Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry and Walk Like a Man, in that succession, that’s probably the biggest on-stage reaction that the four of us get.”
Story of Brotherhood

I know a lot of people who have already seen Jersey Boys and loved it. So much so, they are coming back to see it again. In fact, VanAntwerp advises folks come early in the run, because they will want to be able to come back over and over again.
I asked what people are always most surprised about after seeing the show for the first time. He said,
“What makes it so successful is the story! You leave with a story that is so rich, with so many nostalgic values of a time past.”
“It’s a story of brotherhood. That’s what people walk away with.”
Don’t miss out on this show.
With a fascinating story and songs you know by heart all performed by a talented cast, Jersey Boys is worthy of all this buzz.
