Lowe Mill is a totally interactive experience. Sure you can come just to feast your eyes, and there is nothing at all wrong with that! But if you want to get the most for your money…wait, it’s free* to get in…never mind… If you want to get the most out of the time you spend, then follow these simple steps:
1. If you see an open door to a studio, walk in – you are welcome. The idea of Lowe Mill is for the public (that’s you) to get an up close and personal view of the wide array of art happening every day right here in Huntsville. You’ll see art in all stages of creation, which is not something you see at a gallery, and is really interesting and educational. And sometimes a little surprising!
2. Speak to the artists. Ask them questions! Some questions you can ask: How do you do that? How did you get started? Do you teach classes? The art-
ists are not commissioned sales people who going to swoop down on you to pressure into a sale. (Although buying their art is always welcome!!) Some artists are really shy about starting a conversation and welcome the questions!
3. Try something new. Some studios have hands-on opportunities (ask first if you aren’t sure); at the very least you can open your mind to a new form of art. Art makes you smARTer. (see how clever that was?)
4. Take something with you. If you find something you just love, buy it – there is something for every budget! Or take a class schedule with you, or business cards. On Saturday the Artist Market on the Flying Monkey floor (2nd floor) is chock full of even more artistic creations!
5. Finally, share! Tell your friends and family! Every week we hear people say, “I never knew this was here!”, or “I have heard of this place but have never been before”. If you have guests from out of town, this is the perfect place to bring them for the afternoon. They’ll appreciate it, you’ll look smART, (see, it works!) and you’ll be helping make the world a better place…somehow.
*Special events and concerts may have a cover charge. But for the artists studios and Artist Market, there is no fee.
