I’ve been a vegetarian for about 14 years now, and wow have the eating-out food options improved! There were many years that my only menu options were a salad or sauteed vegetables. Those options made me sad and hangry. Luckily, as time had passed, numerous options for vegetarian/vegan meals are available. Not only are they available, they are delicious, creative and filling! You can also find restaurants and food trucks that are only vegetarian/vegan options, how amazing is that?!
Visit all of these local locations below for a vegan experience you will delight in!
Please note that in today’s world people have varying definitions of what vegan means. For this post, I used the term to mean there are no ingredients that have animal products in them. Many of the locations prepare food where they may come into contact with animal products. Please check with each location before you order to ensure the below recommendations fit your definition and expectations.
Chef Will the Palate
Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment- Immobile Food Truck
I guarantee that anything you select on Chef Will’s menu will be delicious. My favorite meal from him is Blackened Peppersteak with extra bee sting sauce. Give me all of the bee sting sauce! He uses fresh fruits and vegetables, many from his own garden. Chef Will dedicates much of his time to teaching children the importance of cooking, growing food and eating for your health. His hours can fluctuate, but are listed as 12-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday (the Saturday I went he wasn’t open until 2 p.m.) He cooks all meals to order, so leave time to let him do his thing!

Oshi Poké Bowl & Sushi
201 Jefferson St N Street, Suite A, Huntsville, AL 35801
I love how fresh the ingredients are from Oshi Poke! I usually build my own Poke Bowl with white rice, arugula, mango, edamame, seaweed salad, cucumbers, bean sprouts, Inari tofu, garlic ponzu sauce and sesame seeds. Most of their sauces are vegan, but not all of them, so double check before you have them put it on your bowl. If you’re a sushi fan, give the Green Zone and Avocado roll a try.

Straight to Ale's Kitchen
Campus No. 805- In Straight to Ale
Straight to Ale’s Kitchen makes an amazing cauliflower taco meal, ask for it without the white cheese to make it vegan. I love mine with French fries, however, while their fresh potatoes and oil are vegan, they use the same fryer for all fried items. If you need a more strictly vegan option, get the side salad or spicy slaw.

The Veggie
Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment- Railroad Room 5 (where Happy Tummy used to be)
The Veggie serves “vegan comfort food,” and provides you an entire menu of food and drinks. The Veggie has Grab & Go meals and drinks in their café for a quick and easy eating experience. You can also order online and have a meal ready to go in about 20 minutes. My favorite meal so far is the Sticky Orange Basket, fried oyster mushrooms with an orange sauce, celery sticks and pickled carrots. The Mango Ginger Lemonade gets 5 stars! The Veggie also offers meal prep and catering, contact them to find out more.

Mason Dixon
2358 Whitesburg Dr, Huntsville, AL 35801
The Vegan Biscuit and Mushroom Gravy meal, with an extra vegan biscuit, is my go-to order at Mason Dixon. I usually feel left out when people order biscuits and gravy at a restaurant, so it makes me super happy to have a local vegan option. I also always get an order of their pickles, they are yummy! For an added bonus, order the vegan chocolate Cake Pop or Cookie Monster cupcake.

The Hippea Camper
Food Truck, Menu Items at Beezr and Honest Coffee Roasters
The Hippea Camper aims to provide the Rocket City with a healthy, plant-based option. I have never had anything from the Hippea Camper that I did not enjoy. I particularly love a meal they serve at Beezr, the Hot Tamale Supreme. Their juices are also delicious, and most of the names are characters from The Ninja Turtles, so that’s a win-win!

Kamado Ramen
Stovehouse and Mid-City
The Vegetable Ramen is a vegan ramen masterpiece. It includes: vegetable broth, kale noodles, bean sprouts, bamboo shoot, baby arugula, shiitake mushrooms, tofu, steamed corn & cherry tomatoes. Start with the Brussel sprouts and hot green tea for some extra tastebud satisfaction. If you’re a fan of anime/succulents/murals you will also get a kick out of their playful décor and music.

Ashley Polesak has spent the last 10 years living her best life in Huntsville, Alabama. She loves to explore all of the things that Huntsville and the surrounding areas have to offer and is a big proponent for scouting out local experiences. Ashley lives and breathes the outdoors and recreation opportunities in the area, you are very likely to run into her at a park or on a hiking trail. If she has her two rescue dogs with her, Oba and Twyla, please excuse their over-excitement, they are currently being trained and it’s a work in progress! If she had to describe herself in television characters she would choose 1/4 Eleanor Shellstrop, 1/4 Leslie Knope, 1/4 April Ludgate and 1/4 Margaery Tyrell.
