After polling our Instagram and Facebook friends last week, we realized that when it comes to fish tacos, the overwhelming majority of the votes were for Phil Sandoval’s, winning even over Rosie’s! These results weren’t too surprising since we’re all big Phil’s fans as well. We headed to the restaurant early, anticipating the lunch rush. We arrived close to 11 am and getting seated was quick and easy. The interior of the restaurant is so bright and colorful, it feels like a perpetual fiesta!
Appetizers
Phil’s Deluxe Blanco Bowl – $8.95
Layers of spicy beef, queso blanco and pico de gallo.

This queso was some of the best we’ve ever had. Yeah, it’s a pretty pricey addition to your meal. But split this app between a few friends and it is definitely worth it! The spicy beef in the queso made it extra hearty, so either order a cup (smaller size) or split a bowl (large) among lots of friends or you’ll fill up before you even get your food! You won’t be able to resist eating your fill of this delicious appetizer.

I’ve been wanting to visit Phil Sandovals for a while! It’s by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Huntsville. The service is always great and the food is always hot! We had queso with ground beef during our short wait and it was delicious. It was some of the best queso I’ve had.
WHAT HE ATE: Chicken and Cheese Enchiladas served with Mexican rice and refried beans – $10.95
The enchiladas were both very good, but I think I like the plain cheese enchiladas the best. I have no clue what cheese they used, but it was amazing. Next time, I am absolutely going to get 3 cheese enchiladas as my meal.

I am always up for Mexican food and today we went to Phil Sandoval’s to taste their Mexican delicacies. I love all of the bright and colorful decorations all around the restaurant. It was so fun to look around and be amazed at all of the decor. The service was prompt and friendly and we were always getting refills without prompting. Their chips and salsa were amazing! I enjoyed those a lot.
WHAT SHE ATE: Lunch Special #8 Lunch Taco Salad – $9.95
I ordered the taco salad with no avocado or olives (sorry to everyone who loves those, I just don’t). Although it was a tasty salad it didn’t settle very well with me, personally, so I do not think I would order it again. We ended the meal with some of their ice cream which was so creamy and delicious. Definitely a great local Huntsville restaurant to visit and eat some great meals.

I’ve always liked going to Phil Sandoval’s all the way back to the time that it was Rosie’s. The place is decked out exactly like Rosie’s. It was impressive how they brought the food almost as soon as you sat down. Since I’m not a big Mexican food fan, all Mexican restaurants kind of blend together to me, but Phil’s stands out to me because they have the best shrimp quesadillas.
WHAT HE ATE: Shrimp Quesadilla – $14.95
Like I said, I’m usually not super huge on eating Mexican food. A hundred percent of the time I go to Mexican places I eat a hundred percent too much food. I pound way too many chips and end up being stuffed by the time my food gets to the table. That being said, P.S.’s has the best shrimp ‘dillas in town. They will come out hot as blazes and you’ll burn your tongue but don’t fear – just cool your tongue off in the free ice cream and you’ll be gucci.

We were seated quickly next to a sunshiney window in the long corridor of a dining room. I loved looking around at all of the festive decorations while we waited, though we really didn’t have to wait long for anything during the whole meal. Our drink order was taken as soon as we sat down and chips and salsa were brought at the same time. We ordered queso with beef and it was some of the best queso I’ve ever had. I think Phil Sandoval’s salsa game is a little weak but their thin, crispy chips kind of make up for the mild, almost sweet salsa.
WHAT SHE ATE: Lunch Special #6 POLLO CON RAJAS – $9.25
Our entrees were out in no time – we didn’t even have a chance to finish our queso appetizer! I ordered the lunch special # 6 of Pollo Con Rajas and it was delightful. It was VERY cheesy and creamy, which I enjoyed, but I know some people might not like the creaminess as much. I substituted the regular refried beans for the black refried beans since I don’t like black beans. The lunch portion of food was a little smaller than I expected, but still plenty of food and I had some leftover. I tried a bite of Bryan’s fish taco and it was delicious! The tilapia strips were lightly breaded, beautifully seasoned, and fried perfectly. The sauce that came with the taco was tasted almost like honey mustard, but was really good as well!
