Are you in the market for any of the following?

- Any number of strange taxidermy animals?
- Collectibles from around the world?
- Other people’s junk?
- Weird obscure items you didn’t think could possibly exist?
- Friendly people?
- A fun experience?
- A great way to spend a day or even the weekend?
If you can answer yes to one or more of these questions, the World’s Longest Yard Sale happening today through Sunday is for you.
690 Miles of One of a Kind Deals
The World’s Longest Yard Sale also known as the 127 Sale began as an experiment to get drivers off of the interstate and into the back roads of America.
The initial idea started as a route along Highway 127 in Kentucky and Tennessee with the headquarters in Fentress County, Tennessee. Over the years, the route has grown and now stretches 690 miles from Gadsden, Alabama all the way to Addison, Michigan.
After 6 years of visiting the annual event, I have learned a few valuable lessons.
- You will drive some through some of the prettiest country The South has to offer.
- Very few of the deals are really “good deals” but most are “one of a kind” deals.
- The traffic lines can be long but usually only for short bursts.
- Sudden stops are routine.
- Along the route, you will meet some of the friendliest and most unique people from around the world.
- Some stops look like yard sales, some look like tent cities.
If it has ever existed, chances are you’ll stumble across it here.
- The event is meant to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
- You will find gifts for every imaginable taste.
- Don’t be afraid to venture off the route to visit nearby attractions.
- You will have a lot of fun and make some memories.
The World’s Longest Yard Sale really is a major tourist event attracting more then 100,000 visitors along the route, which explains why it has been featured in many national media outlets from USA Today to The Tonight Show.
