Alright, Huntsville. It’s March. It’s windy.
Now let’s go fly a kite!
Everything You Need to Know about the Community Kite Festival
The Community Kite Festival is this Saturday, March 8, 2014 at John Hunt Park from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. Presented by AshaKiran and the City of Huntsville, this free, family-friendly event brings together 65 different organizations along with vendors, food, entertainment, kids activities and, of course, plenty of space to fly a kite.
Free
All you need is yourself to attend this event. Bring a kite to fly, come to watch the beautiful display and, if you don’t have a kite, you can purchase one at the festival. Bring a blanket and folding chairsto enjoy the sights.
Community Resources
There will be a total of more than 80 exhibitors, including the community organizations, which makes it convenient to find out all about the resources that are available in our community.
Entertainment
Be entertained by the Junior League of Huntsville’s Rainbow Rhythm Band, Step It Up, the Huntsville Drumline, Voice of Africa drummers and dancers, DJ Self Esteem and more. Talk about some great talent!
Kids Activities
Children can enjoy a make-a-kite craft, storytime, clowns and see different emergency vehicles up close. Kids can also have a free ID card made during the festival.
Vendors
In addition to the participating community organizations, there will be vendors for shopping. Items for sale will include jewelry, Mary Kay, housewares, and even clothing items. You’ll find the non-profit organizations inside the Jaycees Building and the vendors for shopping outside in the park.
Food
Food will be available for sale, and plenty of it. The On-On Tacos truck will be there too. Tacos + kite flying!
Have Fun
I recently spoke to Kavita Kumar, this year’s Community Kite Festival Chair, to get all of this need to know information. I also asked her what was the most important thing to tell folks about the festival.
She said, “We want everyone to come and enjoy themselves. To have a good time. It is a unique event because it brings so many different organizations together.”
Don’t miss your chance to participate in this great community event.
