Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for May 5 and is a fun day of celebration in the United States and Mexico. We’ll let you read the Wikipedia entry for why “May 5”, but know that it IS celebrated in Huntsville!
We’ve got 5 (cinco) ways to spend your May 5 this year.
Have fun!
1. Support your favorite local Mexican food restaurant
Many local restaurants will have specials (and sometimes swag) in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. If you have no other plans, visit your favorite Mexican food restaurant for dinner!
2. Eat at the Taco Truck
If you are looking for a truly unique Cinco de Mayo experience, visit Huntsville’s Taco Truck – Taqueria El Cazador, found on Governor’s Drive.
3. Silent Disco
Downtown Huntsville, Inc. is bringing a Cinco de Mayo party back to Washington Square downtown. NEW this year is a Silent Disco. Yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. So brush off your best dance moves, grab a set of headphones and get your disco on.
4. Avoid the crowds & go do something different
If you just aren’t feeling a big celebration but still want to be social, check out one of these activities. Jazz ‘N’ Swing Tuesdays at Envy Entertainment & Restaurant is one option, or head over to Lowe Mill for some Swing Dancing.
5. Shen Yun
Head completely off the Cinco de Mayo beaten path by taking in the Shen Yun show at the Von Braun Center Mark C. Smith Concert Hall. Tickets start at $50.
