You’ll never believe it! You’ll never believe what happened to me – Charlie Bucket – the kid least likely to do anything amazing!

It started when I was walking home from delivering newspapers yesterday evening. Something buried in the snow caught my eyes—fifty whole cents! Normally, I would have given the money to my mother to help buy food for my family, but something told me I needed to go into the candy store on my way home. Candy is not something we get a lot of in our family, and I couldn’t resist the smell of chocolate.

Golden Ticket

I bought a Wonka Whipped Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight as it looked and sounded delicious! I took off the wrapper slowly, with my eyes closed, and I turned over the chocolate bar. When I opened my eyes I saw a tiny shimmer of gold. Before I knew it, I was running home as fast as my legs could take me. I hadn’t even taken a bite of the chocolate yet!

My parents couldn’t believe I had found a Golden Ticket! Everyone in town had hoped for one of those and it was me – Charlie Bucket who found one! My four grandparents (who all live in the same bed in our home) couldn’t stop smiling!

The ticket told me to come to Mr. Wonka’s candy factory on the first day in February at 10 o’clock in the morning for a tour! Since my dad has to work and my mom has to take care of my grandparents, I decided I would bring my Grandpa Joe with me! He always talks about how he wishes he could see the inside of the chocolate factory…and now we BOTH get to see it! Together!

The Tour

I’ll be touring Mr. Wonka’s factory with four other children. My dad has read to the us about the other children, as the newspaper has done writeups about all of the winners. My grandparents call the other children names that I’m not allowed to repeat.

There’s Augustus Gloop, he found the first ticket and was too busy eating his chocolate to be interviewed for the article. Next, there’s Violet Beauregarde. She evidently set the world record for the longest time spent chewing one piece of gum. Who knew there were even records for such things?

The third ticket was found by Veruca Salt. She had her father hire 500 women to look for the Golden Tickets by unwrapping chocolate bars all day and all night. I wonder what they did with all of that leftover chocolate? Finally, there’s Mike Teavee, who—like his name suggests—spends all of his time with his eyes glued to his television set.

I think I’m the most excited about meeting Mr. Wonka, though. No one has seen him since he closed the gates to his factory years ago. My Grandpa bets Mr. Wonka will be up to the same tricks as before he closed the gates, I can’t wait to find out if he’s right!

No matter what my trip to the factory brings, I know one thing for certain: I’ve been eating cabbage soup for as long as I can remember, so anything Mr. Wonka shows us has to be better than that!
