This summer, Burritt on the Mountain invites the community to join in on celebrating 70 years as Huntsville’s first museum and a beloved cultural landmark. On Sunday, June 8, the historic site will host “A Mountain Celebration,” an afternoon of music, food, history, and community that reflects the spirit of Burritt’s enduring legacy. Thanks to Dr. William Burritt, who gifted his mansion and 167 acres to the City of Huntsville – Burritt has become a place where history comes alive, natural beauty inspires, and community connections flourish.
A Full Day of Festivities
The event will feature a wide variety of activities for guests of all ages. Live music will fill the air, with The Sandy River Ramblers performing in the Historic Park and Donnie & Melea playing crowd favorites from the Baron Bluff Veranda. Across the site, guests will find historic makers, craft activities, and demonstrations from local museums and heritage organizations, offering a deeper look into the region’s past. You can also weave yourself into Burritt’s history with a community weaving project in the Historic Park. The event will include a guided hike at 3:00 PM, a raffle, and plenty of family-friendly fun — all celebrating Burritt’s vital role in building community and preserving history.
A BBQ lunch will be served under the Bendickson Family Pavilion. Seating will be available throughout The View and Lawn, where attendees can enjoy breathtaking views while they eat. In celebration of the museum’s birthday, a cake cutting ceremony will take place at 2:00 PM. A full cash and credit bar will also be available, featuring light snacks and a special Anniversary Mimosa.
