I have two daughters. They are 4 and 6 and they LOVE butterflies! One of our favorite outings is a trip to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. They love the children’s garden, the water gardens, and of course the butterfly house! They are always a bit disappointed in the winter when the butterflies are a bit hard to come by but Spring redeems the butterfly house!
The Butterflies Are Coming
Now it is Spring and the butterflies are coming! To celebrate the official opening of the Nature Center at the Garden, you and your family can join the butterflies for breakfast and have a chance to explore the wonderful things that live there – turtles, flowers, and of course butterflies!
To honor the occasion The Botanical Garden will have their annual Breakfast with the Butterflies. You and your children can enjoy a delicious breakfast and release your very own butterfly. You can also learn about the butterfly life cycle from hatching to emergence from Tina Stanly, our own butterfly expert, who will be on hand to answer all those questions!
During your scheduled time you will:
- Enjoy a continental breakfast
- View a short presentation on how to release a butterfly
- Explore the fabulous Butterfly House
Wings and Things
During your stay plan to enjoy the Green Things and Butterfly Wings grand opening children’s party in the Children’s Garden from 11:00AM to 2:00PM with butterfly dancers, fancy face painting and Steve the D.J. playing your favorites! All part of your Garden admission!
Can’t make it this Saturday to chow down with the butterflies? You’ve still got three months to enjoy the Green Things and Butterfly Wings exhibit! This summer exhibit at the Garden features 35 hand-painted butterflies. Each butterfly is 5 1/2 feet tall and hand painted by a local or regional artist, including Our Valley Events blogger, Monica Yother, whose butterfly is seen at right.
Butterflies not your thing? Too girlie for you? How about frogs? They’re green and slimly. In addition to the butterflies sprinkled throughout the garden, there are also 25 frogs that “float” in the pond, Aquatic Garden and Encore Garden. So whether you like the pretty, delicate things in life or the slimly, gross things the Botanical Gardens’ Green Wings and Things exhibit has something for you.
