Huntsville loves outdoor events! We just like to spend our summer evenings outside doing super fun stuff.
That’s why the Historic Huntsville Foundation’s Movies in the Park is such a great family-friendly summer event. It’s all the stuff we like to do best.
Before you plan your summer outdoor movie-watching though, here are a few things to consider….
PRE-SHOW
- This year features a Funtastic Family Hour starting at 6:00 pm. Something to do for you early arrivers.
NEW LOCATION
- Now located in Big Spring Park EAST. That’s the side closest to the Downtown Square and the grotto. It’s all newly spiffed up and a great location for Movies in the Park.
MUST BRING
- Blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. This is purely for your comfort and preference, but it’s highly recommended.
- Picnic or cash to purchase food on-site. If you arrive early and then watch the movie….you’re looking at several hours in the park. You’ll get thirsty and probably hungry too.
PRO TIP
- Arrive early and claim your spot. It can and will be crowded, but it’s a fun kinda crowded. Just know your tolerance and if you need to be down front, it will require an early arrival.
WHAT’S PLAYING
- June 12 – Maleficent Disney movie starring Angelina Jolie as the villain herself.
- July 10 – The Princess Bride Rob Reiner comedy that is a classic and supremely quotable.
- August 14 – Despicable Me Animated comedy that will leave you wanting a minion of your own.
FOOD
- This year is all about the food trucks! There will be food trucks and food vendors parked in the cul-de-sac next to Huntsville Utilities and will start serving at 5:30 pm. Who will be there? Glad you asked!
- Chillz on Wheelz
- What’s Popp’N
- Ice Works Shaved Ice
- Angel’s Island Coffee
- Papa John’s Pizza
- Brain Freeze Ice Cream
- Food Fighters
- Sweet Thing Pastry
- Piper & Leaf (bring your jar!)
ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT
- What does that mean? Big Spring Park East is located withing the Entertainment District boundary, so you can walk up the steps to the Square, hit your fav bar and bring back a purple cup containing your adult beverage of choice.
PARKING
- There is plenty of easy access parking to Big Spring Park. Our parking hacks might be useful too.
BE A GOOD STEWARD
- Remember to keep our park beautiful and throw away your trash. It’s just the right thing to do.
Enjoy your movie under the stars. A perfect way to spend a Friday night in Huntsville.
