How many of us go out dancing on a regular basis? No, I’m not referring to going downtown every other weekend and dancing like we did back in high school. I mean take time out of our week to go take a class or two and really immerse ourselves in a dance. What if I told you that there is a group of individuals looking to help you with this and more? I give you……Baila Huntsville.
Baila Huntsville, headed by Gabriela Gonzalez, is a group of dancers who put on classes during the week for everyone to enjoy at The Creative Place. Monday and Wednesday, they teach Salsa, and on Tuesday they teach Bachata, all starting at 7 p.m. The breakdown of the classes is simple.
They start the beginning of the class with a warm up. This is done to get you moving and get the blood flowing, and calm the nerves a bit if there are any. After that, some brief announcements about upcoming classes and events, then everyone is split into their groups. You’d either be in Level 1, 2, 3, or 4. Typically levels 1 and 2 are for beginner and intermediate level dancers respectively. Levels 3 and 4 are for those who’ve been dancing for a while and who’ve progressed through the previous levels.
The classes typically last for about an hour to an hour and a half, with chances for breaks in between. After you learn the pattern for the week, you then do a show and tell in front of the class…..including the other levels! This is to showcase what you learned, but to also give you the chance to dance in a group setting. After all the other levels have gone, there is a small social afterwards where everyone just social dances with one another. Having this opportunity to just dance amongst other people and again showcasing those new moves you learned. This goes on for about a month, with you having learned a new skill and having fun at the same time! If you feel comfortable moving up another level, they encourage you to, but you can also stay in that same level for another month if you feel the need to brush up on your skills or don’t feel ready yet. There’s no pressure to advance if you don’t feel ready. This is just the classes though. They give you more opportunities to dance throughout the month!
On the second and fourth Thursday of the month, they host a Wine and Salsa social, where there is….you guessed it. Wine and Salsa. They also have a thirty-minute beginner salsa class at the beginning for anyone who doesn’t know salsa. The big one is the Alma Social they have on the first Saturday of every month.
Baila Huntsville really does give you the chance to learn something extremely entertaining while also branching out. So……am I going to see you on the dance floor?

I would like to know more about this. Is there a charge or are they free classes.
So typically with the classes there is a fee. You could do a drop in class and take a class that day for $20, or you can sign up for a month of classes for $60. The classes are progressive, meaning they add from the previous week.
