The National Children’s Advocacy Center is kicking off Child Abuse Prevention month by holding a Superheros Bike-a-Fun/Run followed by their free annual Block Party on April 14, 2012. Don your best superhero attire (costumes are encouraged) and get ready for a day of family fun!
Event Theme: Every child needs a hero, but abused children need superheros
To get a better incite into the superhero aspect of the event, I decided to call on my favorite family of superheros, The Incredibles-I know, my collection of famous BFF’s just never ends! Here’s what events this amazing family of superheros are looking forward to at this year’s Bike-a-Fun/Run.
Dash: “The Flash” Timed and Certified 1 mile Race
This speedy superhero loves to race and loves a good competition even more, which naturally lead Dash to the “The Flash” Race. Because this event is an official, certified race, participants can set an Alabama record. The next certified race (and chance to set a record) is in August. Dash told me confidentially that he plans to let the other racers have a chance at setting a record. Racers of all ages are encouraged to sign up. The race will be broken up into different heats according to ages. Click here to register.
Mr. Incredible is excited to get back in on the action, after his break from superhero-dom! His event of choice is the 5K Bike, which requires much more stamina than the 1 mile fun run, though not quite the speed of the 1 mile (that’s all Dash!). Mr. Incredible reminds you that bikes must be 2 wheels and everyone participating MUST wear a helmet. He’s got one to match his Incredibles Suit!
You don’t have to have super speed like Mr. Incredible and Dash to race at the Superheros Bike-a-Fun/Run! Invisagirl (aka Violet) normally known for her ability to become invisible is excited to participate in the 1 mile Fun Run. This race is for people of all ages and levels. Participants are even allowed to bring strollers, pets, wagons and more. Click here to complete details. Violet plans on wheeling Jack Jack in his stroller.
Elasti-Girl is ready to bounce! Literally. This wife and mother to a pack of superheros told me she can’t wait to jump on the inflatables and bounce til the sun goes down (or at least until they tell her to get off). Can you blame her? Its gotta be stressful saving the world!
Jack Jack: Petting Zoo & Games
The youngest member of the Incredibles family is totally jazzed about the petting zoo and games that await him on Saturday. He might even join in the FREE Kid’s Bike Rodeo! Jack Jack is quite an adventurous lad and so anything that keeps him active is right up his (and his mom and dad’s) alley!
As you can see, the Superheroes Bike-A-Fun/Run and Family Block Party has something for everyone AND it raises money for a great cause- the National Children’s Advocacy Center. The mission of the NCAC is to model, promote, and deliver excellence in child abuse response and prevention through service, education, and leadership.
