As a long standing tradition, my mom takes my husband and me out for dinner for our birthdays, which are 3 days apart in early February. This year, my mom suggested we try The Eaves. I had heard lots of good things from friends who have had lunch there, but wasn’t even aware they served dinner until she mentioned it. Judging from the amount of diners on the night we visited, not many others do either. But I can tell you, Huntsvillians are missing out on one of the best dining experiences in town!
The Eaves occupies a renovated house in the former Covington’s location on Church Street. It is an amazing special occasion restaurant. The lighting (a major pet peeve of mine) is perfect, the service was great, and the food was consistently wonderful on every plate brought to our table.
Our server won points right away when, as we were seated, she mentioned that she noticed on the reservations that it was a special occasion and that she had champagne chilling for us. Awesome! She was excellent the entire night and was very detail oriented, but never stuffy.
We had a Cesar salad to share which was lightly grilled-a nice change of pace. My mom and husband each had the filet and even though my mom ordered hers prepared medium, it was perfectly tender and had amazing flavor. I had the fish of the day, and it too was perfect. Our server brought us dessert and champagne—on the house! It was also delicious.
The Eaves serves lunch week days, dinner Thursday-Saturday nights with a seasonal changing menu and brunch on Sundays. I am going back for that next! The menu looked scrumptious! I highly recommend giving this place a try for your next special occasion—or just because it’s Saturday night!
