Annual Favorite
Houston Mathews, Art Krewe President noted, “We look forward to this event every year, and bring variety with a new band and barbecue restaurant each time.
“The best part is this is an event where the entire family can come to the museum and enjoy good, southern food, excellent tunes from a great band, and see a variety of local art and artists. It’s an all-around great time.
“We’re proud this has been a successful event for so long and look forward to seeing everyone out on Thursday evening.”
Gettin’ down with the Bluegrass
The event will feature Whitt’s BBQ and Madison Mountaintop Band will provide music. The group states on their Facebook page that they play “shade tree music, primarily bluegrass, but also some country, blues, gospel, and southern rock with a bluegrass flair.”
You’ll also enjoy:
- Local artists who will be working on site
- A cash bar
- Ryan’s Ice Cream Truck
- A children’t entertainment area
- Whitt’s Barbecue plates are available that night for $12
- Half-priced admission to the museum from 5:30 to 8 pm.

A Patriot’s Story ~ Black Hawk Down
Next up for the Art Krewe is a Patriot’s Day event held September 11, 2012 at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Local war-hero and New York Times best-selling author Michael Durant will speak about leadership.
Durant piloted a Black Hawk helicopter that was fired upon and crashed during a combat operation in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. After enduring an horrific street mob he was captured and held prisoner for 11 days. His image as a POW was seen on news outlets around the world and on the cover of Time magazine. The events of that day were recounted in the book ‘Black Hawk Down’ and Ridley Scott’s movie of the same name.
The evening is a joint effort of the Huntsville Young Professionals and Art Krewe. Tickets will be available online and at the Huntsville Museum of Art in August. A limited number of discounted tickets will be available for veterans, active military and DOD with identification. A portion of proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. Please contact Bronwen Murray at (256) 850 – 3233 for more information.
