Huntsville Tops List Again
Huntsville is back in the spotlight, earning the #1 spot on Livability’s list of the Best Affordable Places to Live in America. The ranking highlights cities that strike the right balance between cost of living and quality of life, and Huntsville continues to stand out for both.

This recognition goes beyond affordability alone. Huntsville’s strong job market, growing arts and culture scene, outdoor recreation, quality healthcare, and overall infrastructure all contributed to its top ranking. With competitive wages and a lower cost of living, residents have more flexibility to enjoy everything the city has to offer.
Livability’s rankings are built using a detailed, data-driven approach. In partnership with Applied Geographic Solutions, the organization analyzed more than 100 data points across eight key categories to evaluate each city’s overall livability and “fun factor.” These categories include economy and housing, amenities and environment, safety, health and education, and transportation. The 2026 rankings place even greater emphasis on housing and cost of living, reflecting the realities many Americans face today.
The methodology is also designed to focus on cities that are both attainable and desirable. Only communities with populations between 75,000 and 500,000 are considered, creating a balance between opportunity and livability. Cities with median home values above $500,000 are excluded entirely, ensuring the list remains centered on affordability. Out of more than 2,000 cities evaluated, Huntsville rose to the top as a place that offers not just value, but a high quality of life.
Unlike many “best places” lists, Livability’s approach is both data-driven and people-focused, highlighting cities where residents can truly thrive. For Huntsville, this continued recognition reinforces what locals already know – it’s a place where opportunity, community, and everyday life come together.
