Located in three counties, Buck’s Pocket State Park is one of the most unique state parks located in Alabama. It sits on over 2,000 acres at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It’s secluded pocket makes it the perfect location for visitors to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
The newly renovated campground features 23 sites providing electricity and water with 13 providing full sewer hookup. But don’t let that deter you as they have a bathhouse with another ADA accessible bathhouse as well. Each of these sites features a 16′ x 60′ concrete camper pad, picnic table, fire pit, and grill. All sorts of campers are allowed in this campground. High speed Wi-Fi is available within the campground too. There are also primitive sites available for the tent campers.
Campers have access to all the amenities of the park including their ORV trails. The ORV trail was designed to be a slow ride through beech/hardwood forest, paralleling South Sauty Creek off of Lake Guntersville. The trail runs 6.2 miles giving plenty of opportunities to take in the beauty of the park and a chance for you to see local wildlife up close.
Buck’s Pocket State Park offers over 20 miles of hiking trails as well. Some offer waterfalls while others offer views of the beautiful Lake Guntersville. The range varies in difficulty for hikers who want a gentle walk or want a little bit of challenge with elevation gain. But that elevation gain is well worth it for the views at the Jim Lynn Overlook! Don’t worry though, you can easily just drive to the overlook if you don’t want the big cardio that comes from the hike. The overlook offers stunning canyon views of the park below. Sunsets here are quite spectacular. There are also picnic areas if you would like to bring lunch to enjoy.
If you are into fishing, bring your rod and reel! The coves within Buck’s Pocket are perfect to catch a bass. Just make sure to purchase your fishing license first.
Make sure you plan to head to Buck’s Pocket State Park soon! Whether you are camping or just spending the day there, it will be just what your soul needs.
