I can easily say that Mezza Luna is one of my all-time favorite restaurants—in Huntsville, or anywhere. With its open kitchen, wood fired oven and sleek bar, the atmosphere is fantastic and the food never disappoints. The variety allows you to make it a fine dining experience, or if you make a selection from their happy hour menu, you can dine on a budget. Happy Hour is Monday-Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 and the menu includes such house favorites as a $5 cheese pizza, a dinner sized portion of mussels for $10, or a (in my opinion) sharable portion of the amazing spaghetti Bolognese for $15. Happy Hour also offers drink specials, a daily fish specials and numerous appetizers and sandwiches.
I recently enjoyed a great dinner with my friend John, which did happen to fall during the happy hour specials. I had the mussels, which are always outstanding and John had the crab cake small plate. He said it was amazing, and it must have been since he never offered me a bite! A lady sitting next to us tried the spaghetti for the first time and couldn’t stop raving about it. Another favorite are the specialty pizzas that offer such interesting toppings as farm egg and jalapeno and a loaded meat pizza for the hearty eater in your group.
Mezza Luna also serves Sunday brunch from 11:00-2:00. It is served buffet style and features staples such as eggs Benedict, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy and salad selections. They also offer a seafood item that changes each week with whatever is the freshest in the house, in addition to a changing pasta dish, vegetables and other sides.
I can’t close this review without mentioning the fantastic staff! Chef Jason Schauer and manager Nicole Wertz provide outstanding food and service and treat regulars like family. The bartenders make you feel at home while preparing you specialty cocktails such as the grapefruit martini—one of my personal favorites! The wait staff is nothing short of awesome—knowledgeable, friendly and professional. If you want to treat yourself to one of the best dining experiences in the Valley, head over to Mezza Luna this week!

I love their grapefruit martini too! Another favorite of mine are the very fresh raw oysters, which cannot be found elsewhere in the Valley. Bon appetit!
Agree Bronwen! One of the best martinis I have ever had. Great review Amy!
Mezza Luna is definitely my favorite restaurant in Huntsville (I’d go to Nick’s for a filet, but ML for almost anything else. And now they are open for lunch every day! (Sorry about not sharing the crabcake, Ames! It was worth being stingy!
Amy didn’t mention their desserts because when any of our gang goes there we are usually too full to have dessert, but they are also outstanding. Not going to reveal who might splurge on dessert but the Italian Donuts with Vanilla Gelato are “to die for”.
