Welcome to The Mayfly Cabin
Spring is upon us once again, as a huge fan of cooler (dare I saw winter temperatures) it takes me a little while to acclimate to the warm weather. One major thing that helps me get into the seasonal shift is finding my way back into the greenery of nature. Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley certainly has a lot to offer, however I have found a gem just a short drive away owned by two amazing Huntsville/Madison residents.
On this We Are Huntsville “And Beyond” series we are going to highlight a charming cabin nestled on a mountain side in Blue Ridge, GA. A beautiful and easy 3 hour drive through the stunning North Alabama/Georgia mountains will place you in the heart of nature however very close to any modern amenities you may need. I have to say just standing on the back deck offers all the tranquility one would need, but is only part of what The Mayfly Cabin has to offer. I mean come on… the views & sound of Fightingtown Creek only 50 feet below are everything.
Hosts with the Most!
Huntsville/Madison Locals, Corey & Sara Williams with pupper Beau (The bestest boy), have dreamed about owning a cabin in Blue Ridge, GA for many years. Being their favorite place to visit and vacation it only made sense. In October of 2022, that dream came to be a reality and they couldn’t be happier, so happy in fact they are now sharing that joy with others.
The Mayfly: Then & Now
After closing on their dream cabin Corey & Sara spent the better part of a month or more renovating the property themselves. The Mayfly is a chink-style log cabin built in 1989. (Don’t worry I didn’t know there was more than 1 type of cabin style either) Corey fancies himself a “stubborn handyman” who can learn anything, he doesn’t already know how to do, through YouTube. While Sara fancies herself as a working designer who curated the art and decor herself. In fact Sara is the artist who painted the drift boat that is the focal piece of the living room. Together Corey & Sara have nestled a perfect escape in their dream cabin that isn’t something you should miss out on experiencing.
More than just a Cabin Escape
The Mayfly in all its glory is what many of us look for when getting back in touch with nature and taking in the sights & sounds. However there is much more around that will provide additional adventures to sweeten the deal! If you recall, the Fightingtown Creek, is about 50 feet away offering both exploration & Trout fishing (regularly stocked with Rainbow Trout). After a day of exploring or relaxing, s’mores is a must, The Mayfly has a fire pit with plenty of seating for everyone to partake. Want to go grab dinner & do some shopping? 7 minutes down the road are two great destinations, both have many restaurants that overlook the Toccoa River. Those being McCaysville, GA established in 1904 as a Copper Mining town & Copperhill, TN which hosted the Whitewater portion of the 1996 Olympics on the famous Ocoee River.
What are you waiting for?
I could talk for hours about the beauty & serenity The Mayfly Cabin offers. However I feel that you should schedule your visit soon to experience it yourself first hand. I love that I can take a quick & easy getaway while also supporting Huntsville/Madison Owners Corey & Sara. Check out more amenities & The Mayfly’s availability directly here.
