Rocket City Electric Bike Rentals is Huntsville’s newest action packed adventure for all who want to experience the Huntsville Metro area in a unique way. The fleet consists of RAD Power Bikes & RAD Runner 2, built by a USA based company out of Seattle Washington, these bikes accommodate multiple types/experience levels of riders. Regardless of if you live and work in the area or are visiting for a period of time, all are welcome to hop on and zip around on one of the many designated biking routes in the city.
I had the pleasure of hanging out with Nathan Tucker & Ash Moore a few weeks back for a sneak peek of the next best addition to the Huntsville area. I honestly was kinda nervous about biking in Downtown Huntsville as this would be a first for me but additionally I have rode a bike longer than 5ft in years. To my benefit Nathan & Ash were extremely personable & genuine, they took the time to walk me through the bikes and how they operate. Before we took off on our tour of downtown I honestly felt like an expert, the only thing left was to convince my legs they could keep up.
During our tour we chatted about the business and the huge potential this has for everyone that steps foot in the Huntsville area. “With Rocket City Electric Bike Rentals, we hope to provide unique experiences in Huntsville, AL to locals, their guests, and visitors that show the many beautiful parts of our city in a fun, active way; Promoting healthy lifestyle and commerce to our city and its local businesses.” Nathan & Ash shared with me that not only do they plan to book rentals directly from their home office downtown, which is shared with the first ever store front for Fow Wow, they also plan to schedule deliveries to surrounding biking hotspots. So if you plan to ride the greenways around Ditto Landing, Hays Farm, Monte Sano and more they can make sure to help you out.
Another fact that I was not aware of is the amount of dedicated biking lanes, stop lights, and approximately 160 miles of bikeway facilities. The city even created in 2006 the Bikeway Plan along with a GIS Interactive Bike Route so you can plan the best ride possible. Find more of the Huntsville Bikeway Plan here. Nathan & Ash identified this benefit provided by the city to strategically place their location on this route so riders can start straight away on the safest & designated route for bikers.
Our roughly 4-5 mile ride through downtown started at their home base with the plan to head to Big Spring Park along the way we stopped near the Veterans memorials as well as the Historic Roundhouse. Once we were in Big Spring Park we rode the circle and headed up to the top of the newly opened parking garage off Clinton Ave to get a view of the construction and overall view of the downtown scape. After the brief break we took off towards the Historic Twickenham District on a similar path of the Ghost Walks hosted every year with stunning views of the historic homes. After dreaming of owning one of those beautiful pieces of history we jetted down to the Five Points neighborhoods before finding ourselves right back on Howe Ave at the starting point we began. The major takeaway here is that my legs didn’t even feel like I had just rode 4-5 miles, the bikes literally take out the strain of hills and allow you to take in the beauty of our city.
You do not want to wait on booking your time with the Rocket City Electric Bike Rental Team as spots will fill up quickly.
