Celebrate Labor Day Weekend at SugarFest

If you haven’t heard of SugarFest in Arab, Alabama, then you are surely missing out! The free festival, which started in 2019, brings all of the family fun for one last hoo-rah for the end of summer on Labor Day weekend. This year’s event is planned for September 3, and it is at Arab City Park.

There will be just about anything and everything to do at SugarFest. The day starts out with the Sugar Rush 5K at 7:30 a.m. Signups for the run can be found here. The last day to signup is September 2. If running is not your thing, don’t worry! There is still plenty of things and sights to do while you are there. Beginning at 8 a.m. craft vendors will open up their booths for you to check out. There are over 170 craft vendors to see, so you are sure to find a piece of art worthy to take home. Craft vendors will be open until 5 p.m.

There will also be entertainment just for your children in the Sugar High Kids Area from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Kids can have their shot at different rides, a dunk booth, mountain climbing wall and even axe throwing. A petting zoo will be set up in the kids’ area, too! The City of Arab’s pool and splash pad will also be open, so you can beat the summer heat.

If you get hungry during your browsing, do not fret. There are over 20 food trucks that are bringing the best grubs. From traditional hamburgers to homemade cookies and a lemonade to top it all off with, you will curb your hunger to keep going.

If you have a pageant queen in your life, the Miss SugarFest pageant kicks off at 9 a.m. Miss Sugarfest celebrates the beauty, confidence and uniqueness of all girls from all ages. More information on the Miss SugarFest pageant can be found here.

From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. you can explore the true gem of Arab, the Arab Historic Village. It is a one-of-a-kind village with buildings that date back from the early 1900s. The village gives you a glimpse of just how life was back way back when in this area. There is a schoolhouse, church, old country store and a lot more.

The fun of SugarFest doesn’t stop there though. Live music will be bumping from noon until 8 p.m. DJ Baude will be kicking it off first followed by a few locals that are well known, Winston Ramble, Lamont Landers and the headliner for the evening will be Trotline. Following Trotline’s performance will be one of the most extravagant fireworks shows at 8:15 p.m. You will be in awe as they light up the night to finish off a sweet day at SugarFest.
