Happy one-year anniversary to Pints and Pixels in their new location! Though Pints and Pixels originally opened in 2016 as an 80’s inspired arcade haven in downtown Huntsville, they made the move to Campus 805 during 2020 and officially re-opened there one year ago.
If you haven’t been since the re-opening, there are some key changes to know. First, Pints and Pixels is now located at Campus 805, across the lot from Yellowhammer in the same building as Rock n Roll Sushi. The new Pints and Pixels location utilizes unlimited-play wrist bands in lieu of the original tokens. Ten dollars for an adult (or seven for kids) will let you play any or all of the more than forty vintage arcade games and pinball machines on rotation. You might notice that fewer games are out at any given time since the new space is smaller than the original location. Another big change is that the new location has a bar but no kitchen, which means that food is no longer served. They do, however, proudly offer beer, wine, soda, and shakes. They take this mission seriously and boast forty taps of craft beer and wine, along with a blackboard list of the fanciest milkshakes topped with everything from cupcakes to mini donuts.
Pints and Pixels opens at noon each day, and I took my game-loving third grade-son one afternoon for a mother-son outing. Though Pints and Pixels is technically a bar, it’s pretty kid-friendly. We ordered milkshakes and took in the new décor, which still includes 80’s music videos being played on a monitor. My son and I snagged a table while we waited for the sweet bartenders to make our shakes, which were delivered to our table in all their Instagram-worthy glory. We were able to take our milkshakes from game to game as holders were set up for beverages, and wipes and hand sanitizer were also available (and customers were encouraged to sanitize between games).
My favorite addition since the re-opening is vintage Skee Ball! Two Skee Ball machines sit at the front entrance and we definitely staked them out until they were free so we could jump in to play. I could have spent our entire time doing Skee Ball if my son didn’t drag me over to his favorite, the retro pinball machines. Lord of the Rings pinball was the most-played for him this trip. We were also super excited to see that the four-player Ms. Pac-Man made the move! The single player Pac-Man games also made the move, but really nothing beats playing Pacman against three other players at the same time. A must-do if you haven’t tried it yet. While our outing was family-oriented, Pints and Pixels would also make a great adult meet-up or even date-night. The tap selection is seriously impressive!
Pints and Pixels is open until 9pm on weeknights and midnight on the weekend. They are available for private events Mondays through Wednesdays and can host up to fifty guests for unlimited play at $150 an hour with a two-hour minimum.
