The Huntsville area is frothing with so many locally owned coffee shops you can visit a different cafe every day of the week and still not sip them all.
Here’s a few of my favorite shops and drinks at locally owned businesses and few insider tips if you go.
Honest Coffee
If you haven’t tried the Bootlegger at Honest Coffee in downtown Huntsville, go order one today! It was introduced years ago as a seasonal flavor and was so popular it became a regular menu item. It’s a latte with house-made bourbon caramel sauce and it’s the best!
The coffee and lattes and mochas at Honest are flavorful and the people are pretty awesome. Ask the baristas what’s their favorite drink or to suggest a new or popular concoction. Many of the drinks on the menu were created by baristas experimenting with different recipes. Honest is a great place to meet up with friends in the heart of downtown. Sit and sip awhile with plenty of outdoor seating in front of the shop and along Clinton Avenue.

Flint River Coffee Company
Take a short drive out Winchester Road to Flint River Coffee Company in North Huntsville, in a cute little renovated farmhouse-turned-coffee shop. You may not have heard of it but it’s been there quite a while, since 2009. The menu of flavored espresso rinks is the most unique I’ve seen, with drinks like Snicker Dandy Mocha (chocolate caramel and peanut butter) and All that Joy Mocha (Chocolate, Amaretto and coconut). One of my favorites is the Funky Monkey, a blend of chocolate, caramel and banana.
Flint River is the perfect place for a coffee date with your significant other or catching up with friends. Very cute rustic feel with wood tables, outdoor seating or a cozy couch by the fireplace. Don’t have time to stay long? Get your drink to go in the drive-thru. All drinks are served hot or iced and ask for a frequent visitor card!
BONUS: There’s a take-a-book-leave-a-book library in the back room where you can borrow a book or leave one behind to add to the shelves. Follow Flint River Coffee on Facebook for events like live music nights.

Angel’s Island Coffee
Come away with me to an exotic island in south Huntsville. Angel’s Island that is. Angel’s Island Coffee is another long time favorite, making coffee-lover dreams come true since 2007. Owner Angel Hussain grew up in Fiji, where she honed her coffee-brewing craft and earned to value community. One of her desires for her shop is to be a place for people to gather and connect.
A variety of seating options make Angel’s Island a great place to meet co-workers, pop open your laptops and take care of business, take your sweetheart on a coffee date, or have a date with your favorite book in one of the oversized comfy chairs. They serve a variety of food options and ice cream drinks too, all of which you can order conveniently through the drive-thru. Follow Angel’s Island on Facebook for special events like live music, latte art contests and more.
Just Love Coffee Cafe
One of my favorite things at Just Love Coffee Cafe isn’t a drink — although don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoy their lattes. But what I love most is all of the foods that they make in a waffle maker. Omelettes – or womelettes, as they call them – cinnamon rolls, tater tots, all in waffle makers. Just something about food in the waffle iron makes it taste better.
So far I’ve enjoyed their seasonal flavors best, so always ask about those before ordering. Call ahead, order online or use the Just Love Coffee app to order for curbside pickup. Visit them in Huntsville or opening soon in Madison.
